Crisis loan help/advice needed plz

Options
Hi all,

Is anyone aware of how this works? I have applied for a crisis loan, I had to download the forms and send them off. (not great really when you need money urgently) but I did it last week on 09/02/2010. I hadn'd heard anything from them so I rang them this morning to see what was going on and was told that they had sent a letter out to me that day and to expect it in the next couple of days.
I asked what that meant and whether it had been accepted but he just said "we are not allowed to give information about the decision" so I can only assume it must have been rejected. I just wondered if anyone who was accepted had to wait for a letter as I am in such a pickle I don't know what else to do and can't sit around waiting for a letter which might or might not help me.
Thank you for any help you can give to this very upset and desperate single mother x

    Hi bunnyboiler123, love the username!

The fact that they would not tell you anything over the phone does not mean anything, strictly speaking they are not allowed to.

Could I ask what you applied for the loan for? We may be able to advise if it was the correct Social Fund provision to apply for.

If you want to repost this on the Benefits board (further down from this one) you'll probably get more responses.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Hi dmg,
    Thanks for the reply
I aren't entitled to any other help, I checked it all out. Can't have budgeting loan or any of the grants because I work but am currently on maternity leave.
My Husband left me for another woman in November and hasn't even been in touch to see how our 6 month old daughter is since then. Anyway, I have managed to get some tax credits and was just about pulling myself together after the devatation when he turned up out of the blue with his fancy bit in tow with a van.
They took the bed, the fridge, the cooker and some other things saying he had paid for them. I just collapsed in a heap I couldn't believe it!!
Anyway, thats is why I applied. I need the money to replace the 'emergency' items.
Also, how do I send this post to the benefits section?
    Thanks again

Oh my bunnyboiler poor you. To repost the thread you need to start another new thread there and then cut and paste the text across from this one.

Just as an aside have you joined freecycle and freegle in your local area to try to get some of these things for free? Have you put in a claim for child maintenance? are you getting divorced or not at the moment?

I do hope you get something sorted.

I would advise that you get some representation from the likes of a Citizens Advice Bureau as they often do advocacy work and can help you fill out the forms to ensure that your application is successful. They may be able to see if there is anything else you are entitled to or can claim for by going over your current situation. www.citizensadvice.org.uk

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you get things sorted.

Freecycle, gumtree (freebies section), local newspaper's classified section are also a good place to have a look too
  • Definitely try freecycle - great people on there!
  • Thanks everyone,
I got the letter it was accepted but a lower amount than I asked for so I had to sign and send it back then wait for a giro. I have been told this was posted to me yesterday but it hasn't arrived today unfortunately.
