Tell them when you answer the door and don't let them in. They should refer it back to their head office and write etc.

Their technique of doorstop collectors works well. They make friends with you and of course nice people don't let friends down, do they??? Just remember that the collector makes a lot of money out of you, this is a business transaction so tell them politely but DO NOT LET THEM IN this time!! The collector will be "helpful" in chatting with you and offering that advice which will turn out to be meaningless in order to get you to pay them something so they get paid in return.

Tell them politely on the doorstep that they can no longer come in - sorry about that, but citizens advice have told you not to let in any collectors (they don't know CAB haven't, but it gives you clout) and as you are having financial difficulties you will no longer be paying them directly but please could they refer your account back to HQ so you can discuss matters with them. Big smiles all round (ok, from you!!), hope things go OK for them, have a nice life etc, bye then.

    Hi
We have not gone bankrupt but have given all our debts (including Provident loan) to a debt management company. All I did was rang Provident, the office number should be on your book, and advise them of this. They then waited until they had heard from the company concerned.
Be aware, they may still send the manager around saying they have not been paid or trying all ways to get you back as a customer by trying to lend you more money. This might be different if you are bankrupt, not sure.

    Hope this helps

    Hi there,
me and oh were in the same position and we stopped payin them in Jan before going br in may. To keep them happy we just gave them the odd £10 here and there for a few weeks and then when we went BR we showed them the BR orders. I must tell you tho to beware as they are the one and only creditor that still to this date write to us to ask for monies. I just file them in the bin now. :)

and do remember that provident plan (in their annual financial statements) for 1 in 3 of their customers to not finish repaying, that why they charge the rest 200% interest

thankyou all so much! i was expecting a lot of "god arent u stupid" replies lol i think i shall tell her on friday that we are in contact with the cccs and will contact their headoffice and will not be paying at the door anymore x
  • I rang three days before the next collection date, explaining the situation and, like everyone else, they tried all sorts to get me to pay up, including manager's letters.
Just remember they can't do anything more than any other creditor. Just because they come round in person, doesn't give them any more rights.
