Hello.
Just a quick question. Husband is away on a course for two weeks - so only me in the house Monday through to Friday. Should I stock up the freezer for when we are back to normal or just buy the things I need for the week and then for when he is home at the weekend. I did actually do a massive shop this Saturday. I don't really eat that much in the week so in fact could save quite a lot of money. Even as I type I think that I am persuading myself of the second option - shop only for me in the week and then for when husband comes back at the weekend.
Many thanks.

Hiya,
Meal plan is the way to go, (and yes, I really should take my own advice
)
Have a look at what you have got (which is what I am going to do), then perhaps you might only have to get one or two things to complete your meals. HTH0 -
I'd take the opportunity to spend next to nothing but if you've got some spare time because H is away, why not do some batch cooking to help keep the costs down when he's back and feed yourself a small portion before freezing the rest.0

Hi, I always always meal plan. I am going to go through the cupboards nearer the weekend but there is so much meat in there, I should be able to get away with just fresh stuff next week for me in the week ... :jMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0

I would run my stocks down and start afresh I have been doing this since before Christmas and have still got loads left so my weekly shopping has only been £30 apart from when I restocked my freezers at the local trade shop for £40 but that will last me at least 2 monthsBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I think I'd spend some of the time deciding on two or three really nice recipes (maybe a good time to try some new ones?) to batch cook and freeze so that you have some ncie things to enjoy waiting in the freezer for when you are back together. I think that's what I'd do.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

I'd go for that option too. You might as well have a week of cheap eats using up what you have whilst its just you. I find its easier to make a creative meal for one! Although its nice to have rush getting tea and having a bit of time to yourself to do some cooking that can be used when he gets back. Especially if it will make your life easier for a couple of nights (I love it when I have pre made something and dont have to worry about excessive cooking for that night

Hi there
First stop is an inventory of your store cupboard and freezer - it will probably surprise you how much you have in stock. Then only buy what you need and cook from the storecupboard - from your signature, you will be well on the way to saving £3k

I would make use of all the spare time you will have without him being there as a distraction and stock up your freezer with home made goodies.
I never have time with children and husband, so when he goes away if I get some spare time in between everything else I try to do other tasks.

My dh is now working away Mon-Thurs one week and Mon-Friday the next. DD away at Uni in term time, yet I still seem to shop as much!
We all have big holidays planned this year. I surely must have enough food to last till we go, not fresh stuff of course! Oh heck, I feel a challenge coming on! Maybe I should try and see how far it will go? I just can't resist the Aldi super 6 though!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Thanks for all the replies.
I have looked through the freezer and it really is bursting. Next week I only have to buy a few things (fruit etc) to get me through next week - want to spend as little as possible.
Thanks for all the ideas.:jMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0
