Mortgage holidays/breaks

I'm planning to go travelling in 20 months time and saving to do so. I have looked into renting my flat out to cover the mortgage payments but the set-up costs far outweight the benefits. I have decided to take a mortgage holiday- I know that the interest will build up for the time out but I really have to do this. Currently my mortgage is with the Halifax and I am now on SVR so I need to change anyway.
I'm planning to travel for 6 months but take 9 months out of work therefore I need at least 8-9 months mortgage free.
I've spent the last year clearing my credit card, overdraft and loans so that I can do this.
Has anyone got a good suggestion for the best deal I can get to make my mortgage flexible and allow me to actually enjoy life?
Thanks
Helen
