Glad to hear that my efforts are appreciated. :A
This is bound to happen, so keep hold of the instructions (I've made minor updates to the instructions above, so please copy it again). As soon as you hear anything funny, take out the fan and defrost it, unless it is in warranty period. In that case, leave it for the engineer.
Best thing will be to do this on a regular basis, i.e., before so much ice accumualtes that it stops the fan from working.
Many thanks for posting the instructions above. So easy to follow and saved me money and hassle! I hope you're still on here and read this as I am truly grateful :j

With an update on my last post.... After reading all the posts and email from Samsung saying that it sounded like a fault but they wouldn't do anything because it was out of warranty! OH said he wasn't prepared to pay for an engineer to rip us off so he had a look at the fridge, took the panel at the back of the fridge off ( it had frozen solid!!) and took the hairdryer to it. Our fan was still working but had iced up around it. He made a bigger hole in the drain (as per Shamrockabc's engineers advice) and put it all back together. It wasn't too difficult to do, the trickiest part was getting to the screw holes that had iced up.
The result is that the buzzing noise seems to have gone! Fridge is working fine and hopefully all is rosey in beebee land. :T
I had the same issue. Thought I would have to spend big bucks to fix this problem. I opened up the back panel and thawed the ice from around the fan. The problem was solved.0 -
Samsung RSH1NBRS. Purchased from Boots Online 28th March 2010. We have been on holiday for 1 week and whilst away the fridge and freezer stopped working. Instead of cooling seems to have been heating up. Mother in law found it after we'd been away for 4 days. Mould all on the shelves. Mould growing in the full freezer compartment too. Approx £600 worth of food to replace. Called Samsung whilst away not realising the amount of known faults and defects with the item. I've since found this out after researching and finding this forum. Samsung are sending an engineer out tomorrow Free of Charge to see if its one of the know defects of these models. In the meantime, after reading this forum I now have no faith in the model. I have emailed Boots on line claiming for replacement or full refund under the Sale of Goods Act based on the fact of the known faults and defects and also claiming for the £150 excess I have to pay on my Insurance to claim for the loss of food. I'll keep you posted.0

We suddenly got the loud scraping noise in our RSH1NBBP ff last week and I phoned Samsung twice to be told that it was manufactured oct 2008 and that they only cover them before June 2008 as they were manufactured differently after that date. I have today spoken to customer care (complaints) and they are adamant that any repair is at my own expense. The noise stopped a couple of days ago and now my fridge is warm even though the display still says 3deg. Lost our food and now don't know what to do! Want to take this further as this is obviously a know fault! They just keep saying it is highly unlikely that it is the same fault!0

Phew think i am lucky was going to purchase one of those kits over the net after seeing that wondeful video posted on youtube (joke) when samsung finally relented and send out one of their contractors in london agsrefrigeration mind you they have sent others in the past problem would still come back anyway im now glad for the engineer said their have being hundreds of people who ended up damaging their appliance by ripping the pipework behind the casing when trying to get to the fan system he even showed me all the photo's he has to take to provide proof to samsung of customer misuse and now all these people have ended up out of pocket just for a few quid to say the least i am very pleased for i could have easily added to the numbers especially when he showed me the position of the pipework and how easily this could be done better to get someone who knows what they are doing than trying to guess which part or parts you might need. Think your doctor would'nt prescribe meds without first seeing and have a look and a word with you would he. Anyway my fridge all fine and working like it should do for the first time in years.0 -
I, too, have had these problems with my Samsung RSH1: noisy fan, water dispenser not operating, temperature in fridge higher than indicated. I have measured the temperature in the fridge compartment: indicated temperature = 2 degrees C, actual temperature = 10.8 degrees C.

I initially contacted Samsung via their web site and received a (very prompt) response advising me to defrost the fridge and, if the problem persists, to contact my local service centre.

I bought the fridge on 6 April 2010 and so it is now out of warranty. However, having done much research on the internet about this, I believe that as the faulty components have been present since the unit was manufactured they should be replaced by Samsung with updated components free of charge. I have contacted Samsung to that effect, but don't honestly expect any helpful response. My fridge is only three-and-a-half years old and suffers from a very common problem, yet Samsung will take no responsibility.

I would never buy any Samsung product again and would urge others to think again. I'm sure there are much more reliable products available.

Hi I'm Rajab. I bought my Fridge freezer Samsung RSH1 DBRS in September 2009. In early 2011, I had problems with it already, the frigde side packed up which was repaired under warranty. I wanted to take extended Warranty from Samsung and in August 2011. I spoke to a Samsung Adviser working for Samsung based in Cairo. They knew there were problems with this model and I was offered 3 year extended warranty "as a gesture of goodwill". I started having problems with the freezer this early October 13 with the Freezer side showing high temperature. When I phoned Samsung they refused to honour the warranty saying that it was not recorded on their system.
Two weeks ago the fridge side gave up. They said any inspection by their Authorised Service Centre is chargeable as the Unit is out of warranty. I further asked for their call recordings of the conversation I had with their advisor in Cairo who has now left Samsung. Their answer was that they keep phone recordings for 6 months only. I will not give up as I believe this is not a way to treat customers. I will consider Trading Standards, Watchdog etc. I paid for their Approved Service Personnel who confirms that the unit is out of refrigerant and has a burnt out smell . I will see what Samsung has to say about that as there is a safety notice on RSH1 model which is included on their website.0 -
We had an engineer to look at the fridge yesterday. He removed the panel at the back of the fridge interior, exactly as is shown on a YouTube video,
and there was an immense block of ice inside. The sensor proved to be the 'wrong' one, which the engineer replaced, along with the whole assembly which, I presume, had been damaged by the ice build-up. I took photographs of everything.
In my opinion if an unsuitably designed component, which has been present since purchase, was the cause of the problem, the necessary remedial work should be paid for by Samsung or the retailer (Argos). I shall write to them both.0 -
Hi, I know this post is old as I've read it before, but I'm hoping somebody may be able to help
Having a problem with my Samsung fridge freezer (model number DA99-01457B). I've had a squealing noise coming from the fridge twice before, which meant I had to take off the inside panel & chip away tons of ice. Both times this has been after a 4 week holiday in the summer - assumed the build up happened because the door hadn't been opened for so long.
However, now we have a squealing noise coming from the freezer... We were away for 4 days over the new year & left the ice maker on by accident. It was stuffed full of cubes when we got back & heard the squealing noise, which sounded like it was coming from the top of the freezer, so we turned off the ice maker & emptied the tray. The noise came back within 15 mins so we emptied the freezer & turned the whole thing off at the plug to de-frost (despite the fact there didn't seem to be any ice build up - I just wanted to be sure). The next morning we tried turning it back on & it was noise free the entire time we were in the house, until the evening, and now the squealing is back.
I've pulled the whole thing away from the wall & the fan/vent part was covered in grey dust, which I've cleaned away. It's still turned off now.
Does anyone have any ideas about what it could be? The squealing stops when we open the freezer door, just like it did with the fridge (which is what made me try to de-frost, in case it was also a build up of ice).
Help gratefully received.
Thank you. Lauren0
