Speeding

When I go onto the motor insurance comparison websites, the 'normal' offence appears to be SP30 - Driving on a road exceeding the prescribed speed limit but here in NI, I have on my licence what appears to be 5008013 - is that the same thing?

yes a 50.08.013 is excess speed offence. anything starting with 50.08. then another three numbers, is a road traffic offence. SP30 is speeding relating to the road eg going 40 in a 30 zone, SP20 is in relation to the vehicle ie going too fast in something like a caravan for their speed restrictions, SP10 is going too fast in a goods vehicle, SP40 is too fast in a passenger vehicle ie taxis and taxi buses etc, SP50 is going too fast on a motorway and SP60 is an "undefined speeding offence". so you may not have just an SP30, it may differ depending on circumstances.
for the comparison sites i think if you put in your code it should be ok, if not put in whichever one of the SP's that relates to you and where you were speeding.
hope that helps!0 -
i meant to say i think the long numbers are the older reference numbers. and if your offence is over 3 years ago then most insurers only need to know about it but wont affect your premium.0

Thanks for your response.
For quite a while I thought that an SP30 was a speeding offence in a 30 mph zone - which I now know it isn't necessarily.

i used to think that too, but in work (insurance) we have the codes so i thought id look them up for ya! so it enlightened me also!0
