Hi, i really would like to do this for next year. I have some tomato plants, cucumber which where given me to me and i have sweetcorn growing (brought as small plant) seem to be doing ok so far
can anyone provide me with a full list of how to grow things at at what time in the year?
I would like to grow: pots, garlic, carrots, spinach, sweetcorn, peas, mange tout/sugar snaps/mushrooms/asparagus and anything else really!
Would it be ok, OS wise to buy these as mini plants? (ie seeds that have already sprouted) I am not very good at growing things from seed. when do i buy and where is the best place? I have heard that dobies are quie good?
I have just brought a six pack of herbs that are fully grown, am I ok to keep these indoors on kitchen window? it is quite a sunny spot.

Why dont you get down to Woolworths or Wilkos and get a few seeds packets at half price now and plant them as an "experiment" to find out what bits of your garden they seem to thrive in etc... Easy and quick things to grow are radishes and wild rocket. The packets are less than 50p each at the moment, just dig over your ground a wee bit and then sprinkle them lightly in rows.
I would porbably by tempted to plant your herbs theyll grow into bigger plants? Rosemary if not but back grows into a large and quite attractive sbrub. My sage and oregano both look great. Mint I planted into a large tub so it doesnt take over my whole garden again its doing well. The only one thats not happy is my poor little thyme plant but I havent given up yet!Me debt free thanks to MSE :T0 -
I'm far from the font of gardening knowledge, however less than a year ago took on an Allotment to grow stuf for ourselves.
In September/Oct we planted Onions & garlic, both did really well. Now got Summer onions & garlic in, Shallots are ready already. Planted the summer stuff in Feb/March.
As the previous post stated both Rocket & Radishes are easy to grow.
For potatoes there are a few ways to grow them. You can put them into the ground, as normal or grow them in bins or even bin bags. Every now & then earth them up (meaning cover then up with soil, apart from the top leaves). We planted our Earlies (Picked as new Potatoes) in April (they taste lovely now). Main crop a couple of weeks later for picking in August.
Beans are easy, especially the Dwarf Beans, as you do not need a frame for them to climb. (Got the seeds from Liddles).
As when to put things in & what to do with them. We grew all ours from Seeds, the packet told us all we needed to know. In fact as we didn't know what to do, we reliedon the packets.
We did invest £14.99 in a mini polythene covered Frame (mini greenhouse) from Wilkinsons to germinate the seeds in & used meat trays from the supermarket & put a knife through them for drainage.
It's all trial & error. Some things will grow & others wont. Sometimes you get suprised at something that you've given up on, grows.
Look on the thread appertaining to 'What are you growing in .......' on this Old Style Forum, therse lots of advise there.
Best of luck
