Don't want 0800, do need regional.

Options
Can anyone provide me with a regional telephone number for Southern Electric & British Gas please. Both these providers now give 0800 numbers but when you move into a house with no landline and need to use a mobile, 0800 numbers are chargable, whereas regional numbers are included in your free allowance minutes.

Tough. Rent a landline or use a phonebox. Or complain to your mobile phone provider.

How rude! and worthy of a complaint to mods.

Were I to include non-relevant details I could have said a landline IS on order, but as we're changing provider, this will take up to 14 days, and as far as I'm aware, the majority of mobile phone providers charge for 0800.

If anyone more polite can provide a response, you will be welcome.

Sorry I can't help, but I agree with you , there was no need for that poster to be so rude, some people just love to upset others!

Disgusted myself, there, no idea why I responded like that. Still, not sure why 99.9% of customers should be inconvenienced to accommodate your special circumstances. How few people do not have access to a phone box? Perhaps, to be fair, the supplier should switch to a non-regional number so 100% of people do not get free calls? Mess with the 99.9% so the 0.1% who can't be bothered to walk/drive to a phone box aren't inconvenienced? That makes sense.

Put in the name of the company you need, and get a whole host of numbers :)

No the answer is not for service companies to switch to non-regional numbers, but simply to quote both numbers. That way no body is inconvenienced- even the 0.1% have a right to a choice. Or do you disagree with that?

My wife says I waffle when explaining, but, as I'm now in the realms of giving chapter and verse, here goes.

I googled for ages to try and find a number for myself.

I phoned both British Gas & Southern Electric to ask for a number and they agreed with me, that 99% of mobiles charge for 0800 and during a house move, 50% of people will be forced to use a mobile and that arriving in a new town, to hunt for a phonebox is not something a 70yr old should be doing.

I searched the saynot00870 website and posted a request.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com was my last resort and in doing so, encountered rudeness.
