Boss 'forgets' to pay me.

I haven't been in my job all that long, but every few weeks my wages are late, and when I ask my boss she has 'forgotten' to pay me. Is there anything I can do about this?

I think I'd be reminding the Boss the day before!

You don't have to make a big deal of it, just drop into conversation that you're glad it's pay day tomorrow as you've bills that need paying.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

If he pays by BACS (in your bank account) you need to remind him on the day before the payments are due to go out. Whoever does payroll will be able to tell you, and you could double check with them that you are getting paid?
It's worth reminding your boss that you have direct debits etc and that you will incur costs if you money does not get in!
I don't know if it's a legal obligations, but all the employers I have worked for when they made a mistake with the wages they paid any charges incurred.

My boss did this on 3 occasions. On the second occasion I went to her and showed her a bank statement showing that my direct debits were due the day after my pay. I then asked her to cover the bank charges £105 of the one's that were sent back and told her that if she wasn't going to pay me on time I would be doing this each month.
She hasn't really learnt her lesson, I remind her each month that I need to be paid that friday & last month I checked my online banking and low and behold it wasn't there. As soon as she got into the office I asked her to go out and get me the cash and then informed her that I would be leaving the office for an hour to pay the money into my account.

IMO it's so unproffesional but this is a small family business with the director doing all of the pay and she honestly doesn't care. It's not only me who gets paid let but im the only one who goes on and on at her until I get it.

Volunteer to take over payroll, saying that you realise how stretched your boss is? You add a new skill to your CV and ensure the wages are done on time.

  • Hmm well its still not in today - I am paid weekly so think 2 days late is really unfair! I questioned it and was told its on its way:( There isn't payroll as such, I am kind of an au pair so its just me and its only £60 a week, but BECAUSE its only £60 a week I really need it to be on time! Anyway, I am job hunting again as this job, which I had hoped would be some breathing space after a stressy office job, is the biggest nightmare ever.
  • if its 'on its way' they cldearly dont have the cash to pay you.

another job is the best idea. good luck.

ps. and sixy pounds a week isnt enough!!!!!!
  • Its fairly standard for au pairs, but I was told I would be working 20-25hrs a week and I do at least 40:eek: So I agree, £1.50 an hour is NOT enough!!!
  • taking the mick me thinks????????

get out. you are worth more.xxxx
  • are they paying your stamp etc??????? if not why not. also, if they are, the national minimum wagescme into play here.???
  • If they are so slack with wages I would check if you are insured too......
