Situation is I have graduated from Uni... got new job... £17,000 a year.
I have no family where I live or friends that are wanting to move... GF is looking to move to London so we are not looking to move in together.
Sharing in the area is pretty non-existent...as in house share and tbh I don't want to move in with randoms, done all that at Uni!!
Problem I have is cost of one bedroom flats... looking at £500 (to rent) unless wanting to live in a dump.
I can move to a town about 15 miles away and maybe look to purchase 1 bedroom flat for £90k.
Again mortgage would be in region of £500 a month, plus got council tax (£60?) and other bills.
Government seem to help every other person on this planet - are there any help/tax breaks etc for single dwellers?
Getting rather stressed over the matter now.
Kind Regards

If you're buying a house at 90k, you'd need a 9k deposit. You'd be looking at 4.5 your salary - don't know if that's pushing it.
Maybe someone at your new workplace would be interested in sharing a flat? I know you say you've done it, but it was certainly my only option when I graduated, and house prices were far lower than now.0 -
deposit wouldn't be a problem, have £11k in bank at the moment but would b worried about gettin mortgage0

i am a graduate trainee at new company, work with 6 other guys and they all have families and kids unfortunately.
government are keen for people to go to university and get degrees but offer little help after that or so it seems... need wealthy parents to give you a bump start these days!0 -
Alternatively the government expects us (people just out of university) to help ourselves by not expecting to buy immediately and by taking time to build up our savings.
Why /should/ the government help in this situation?0 -
£500 a month to rent a one bedroom studio + council tax, plus water, electric, gas, tv licence, travel to work and to eat from £1122 a month... tell me where there is spare cash for savings and if you read my posts above i have £11,000 saved through my time at university.0

Yeah, it is hard - which is why I rented a flat with other people throughout my 20s.0 -

You haven't answered my question of why the government /should/ help you when you have enough to live by yourself, whether renting or buying, can afford all your bills and should, by my calculation, have some left over at the end of the month (and presuambly you have the potential to earn more after a year or two).
Sounds to me like you're fine, what's there to be so stressed about?0
