Finding a job ater illness

my oh is going through the same thing at the moment and is finding it hard to get any kind of response from employers when he applies for positions.
he is now registered with Shaw Trust, a company / agency which specialises in helping people with disabilities back into work. he has also just seen a Disability advisor at the job centre who is in the process of placing him with an employer on a Work Preperation, which my hubby will work for an employer for 30 days, giving him recent experience, used to being in the workplace again, a reference to put on his cv, and the possibility of a job afterwards.
definately speak to your local job centre, they have been a big help to my OHYou're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -
seven-day-weekend wrote:My husband had two years out of teaching due to a nervous breakdown. When he felt well enough to go back, he went for an interview. He was upfront about his breakdown and when asked 'how do I know it's not going to happen again' by the head, his reply was, 'you don't, but you don't know that about anyone'. The head thought this was a fair point and gave him the job, he was there for ten years until he retired in 2004 following a severe bout of depression.
I think you husband made a very valid point. Teaching has high stress related absense. For many people this manifests itself in physical illness. Managers in education need to be realistic and accept that many people are off work for lengthy periods because of the stress of the job.0
