Private Tutor Wanted for Common Entrance Assessment (Grammar School Test)

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good tutor for the Grammar School Common Entrance Exam? I am looking for one preferable in the Portadown area.

I know I could probably find adverts somewhere but would prefer to get someone who comes recommended rather than someone who needs to advertise.

Thanks in advance for any information

The Common Entrance Exam is used in the independent sector and isn't the same thing as the 11 plus entrance exam for grammar schools.

I'd contact your nearest independent/grammar school (whichever is relevant) to see if any of their staff offer private tutoring.

The Common Entrance exam for a private school is used to assess which level the child is at prior to deciding which class set they will be in and is taken at 13.

The Grammer school exam 11+ is different and is used to decide whether a place will be offered to a child.

As Oldernotwiser suggests contact the school concerned and ask them if they can point you in the right direction for extra help.

My mum teaches at a Grammar school, and says she can tell you exactly which kids have had coaching through the 11+ exam.

They're usually the ones who are near the bottom of the class year in year out, and would have been much happier at a comprehensive school, where they'd then have a chance to be top of their class amongst kids of a similar ability.

General tutoring in all subjects can be helpful for a child, but coaching to pass a specific exam isn't always wise.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I would hardly say posting on a message board where 9.5 million visits were made in Jan as word of mouth.

Goto your local Grammar school and ask there
    Always ask ACAS
  • As the poster is discussing Northern Ireland Grammar Schools are still standard there.(How long for is anyone's guess though!)

I'd suggest asking this on the NI sub forum if you haven't already?
