Robinson Way Ltd/Moorcroft Debt Recovery

My son and his partner have received letters from the above mentioned companies.
The letters both relate to money owed to United Utilities.
The Robinson Way Ltd letter relates to a previous address my sons partner lived at and is for £901.94:eek:. She never paid or received any bills from United Utilities when she lived at this address.

The letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery is addressed to my son at the property they both live in now. They moved in together at this address at the end of July last year. They have never received a bill from United Utilities.

They are on benefits and have a two year old daughter.

What should their first course of action be? Do we send a prove it letter to each DCA or contact United Utilities and ask for a payment scheme.

  • Areyour son and daughter saying that they don't owe the money and United Utilities were not their service provider?
  • They are saying that yes they most likley do owe United Utilities for water rates. But United Utilites never sent them any bills, so how could they have paid?
  • They should have contacted the company and asked for the bills if they knew they were receiving services which they were not paying for. ..at house 1 and house 2??

Suggest they contact the DCAs as soon as possible as the debts appear to have been passed on.

if they do owe the money one thing they could do is write to them and ask if they could pay so much a month off, as we owe money to moorcroft and we wrote a letter just asking if we could start to pay £5 pcm to help to start paying it off and they never questioned it and just said yes

  • What sort of letter do we send the DCA? Do we send a prove it letter or do we send an offer to pay a fixed amount each week with a SOA showing that we are paying as much as we can?
  • Thank you Oneday. I think that is probally the best thing to do.

i didnt bother with an soa to them.
i my letter i just put that i'm really wanting to pay this debt off to themselves and would they be willing to me to start paying £5 pcm to help to start clearing it.
if they do want a soa they will write back asking for it but i doubt they will as they are happy just for u to be paying something.
but dont ring them as u want it all done in writing and also in the letter u could include the fact that they have a young child and on benefits

  • They also need to speak to UU to ensure they get bills going forward....and pay them.

I was going to say send a prove it letter, it's down to them to prove that a debt exists.
If you do contact the DCA's, make sure that everything is in writing and never speak to them on the telephone, they will only lie and bully you into increasing your payments.
If the DCA's do telephone you, just say "everything in writing only" and hang up.
    Best Wishes

Just thought I'd mention that as these are "handed on" debts - the recovery companies are usually willing to accept a smaller lump sum as a full and final payment to clear the debt.

It may be a way for your son and his partner to significantly reduce the payment if they could agree smaller totals and borrow from friends and family to makie a lump sum payment. (obviously then making their token payments to the lender, but could save over 50% this way)
