Jo, the WWOOF site was fascinating, I spent ages looking through all the offers, wondering if there were any in Yorkshire that would let a family of five plus dog go and live there...we've always talked about going self-sufficient and home-educating but have been so bogged-down in money and work worries that we haven't even thought about it for a year. We live right in town and a few weeks ago our front gate was stolen, possibly by drunks, which we get a lot of, coming and going from pubs in town. OH hadn't realised (thought I'd mentioned it; we rent anyway, so not our problem)- and now desperately wants to move, which brings him nicely up to my level of thinking!

Munchki, have you thought about being a housekeeper? I reckon a lot of live-in places would let you keep your cat anyway, including pubs etc, you could always ask :)

Going to pack the sold Ebay stuff and list the remaining things that need selling. Can't shift these stupid MBT trainers and they cost me £40! I can't even smellify them, they're much too tiny for my massive feet...
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Oh! And, does anyone know any good sites for doing a CV? I've never actually needed one before and have avoided doing one...stupid I know but like most people (or possibly English people?) I hate 'showing off'...I know, I know...:)

    hope this helps!

well sooooo much for being motivated am really feeling carp today, but have managed to make another topper. (doubting my abilities again) but have got 3 toppers and 5 corsages made so far. some i like some i dont but i know not everybody has the same taste as me which makes me even more critical of the things i make. must do a commitments list for today as otherwise nothing will get done- so here goes!

    1) ironing (as usual on my list!)
    2) think seriously about getting a camera so i can take good photos
3)make fruit cake for birthday cake order next week
4)figure out how to make a mule out of icing for a jimmy choo cake(another order for next week)
5)list 5 things on ebay and pack up what has to go
    6)have another look at folksy
7)make a list for the rest of the week what needs to be done/menu plan

looks as though its going to be lovley and sunny here today but by god its cold. Sister has bought us tickets for the jewellery/bead fair in two weeks and has booked us a jewellery making class - dont worry i'm not going down that road have enough on the go at the moment! but it'll be interesting.

  • Morning all,

I feel like poo! I think I have swallowed a bit of sandpaper and there is a sumo wrestler sitting on my face! Worst of it is DD1&2 sound the same!

    Jobs for today:
Pick up deep fat fryer from man of Freegle
Clean the fridge (OH knocked over a big pot of cream and it has gone everywhere)
List all my bits on EBay
    Do some more Dooyoo reviews

Is it just me or does anyone else find them tedious??

Paula - I read somewhere that the english are notorious for not showing off, along with moaning about everything and constantly talking about the weather!

Skintbint - Good luck with the cakes! I am in awe, I struggle to make butterfly cakes without cocking them up! Btw, don't feel bad about your toppers, they look like something out of the poshest cake shops, you are so clever.

Have any of you ever thought about doing your own classes? Random idea, but for people like me, I would love to go to some of these workshops, and all of you already have the skills, just wondering if there was any money to be made in it?
    turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 - :(

I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!

hope you are all feeling better soon, there's nothing worse than all being not well, hopefully the little ones will sleep and give you time to put your feet up

have thought about it would go along the lines of:
limit the class to 4, i make the actual cakes and hire somewhere, church hall or something. (removes the need for waiting on cooking/cooling time)they choose from 2 designs.
10.00-11.00 introductions and i give a demonstration of bits and pieces while they watch, and have a play around
11.00 - 12.30 do the basic shaping and covering,
    12.30-13.15 buffet lunch
    13.15-15.30 finishing touches

cost £50-60 with recipes and worksheets and the cake. or £75 and i include a goody bag including apron etc

day dreaming but you just never know, will maybe get 4 friends but would rather strangers to do it for free and get feedback.

lilac, elly, and 2 others??? are you up for that

Paula - what size are the mbt trainers? was thinking of getting a pair for doing the school run, I vary from 4-5 depending on the shoe style......

Was it Em who was fantastic with cv's ....she helped Munchki I think. She may be able to offer a few tips!

Bluecow - sorry not pm'd you, really have been meaning to just all gone it a bit manic here. One quick question though if you ar around and don't mind - my dad had a home visit on Tuesday morning, all seemed to have gone really well but when I popped in yesterday I discovered the oven had been turned on and left on since then  luckily electric oven, but the flat (with no heating) was very cosy . I haven't had chance to talk to the rehab centre yet but it has really panicked me......any thoughts on how I handle it? Sorry for being completely off topic but really caught me out yesterday; not worth thinking about what could have happened.

  • Sounds like a great idea to me!

Would be nice to have something different to do of a weekend.

I know that card making one are run in certain places for about £2 a go, but the only one I know off in in the garden centre where they sell all the crafty bits, pretty sure discounts are given to the organiser on the hope that people will buy bits on the way out. Don't suppose that would work with cakes? Publicity for discounts?

Bit far for me to travel otherwise you could count me in. Sounds like you have really thought about it!

Nixi- sorry can't help, but you are right to be seriously worried.

Skint - I would love to do something like this but I am not the kind of person to pay for it (prob as I am skint lol!) but would love it as a gift, so you'd have to market it as a present/gift voucher scheme too!

Meant to say my twleve month aim:

    1) Have a childrens book/series accepted by a publisher (very long shot!!)
2)Be comfortable enought to be able to afford nice family holidays, a few luxuries (like getting my haircut regularly, last time was June....it def. needs cutting!!) and all the bills without worrying every month!
3)My husband to be less stressed about/at work - less financial pressure at home would help, but a new job would be better!
4)be contributing financially to the family without having to go out and get a job so all fits around school commitments easily! (Aim 1 would help cover that!!!)
