Huge debts - advice please

Thanks again for the responses ald65, miss-missy and slummy mummy.
I must admit I've got some re-forming of old habits to sort out and I guess it will require some determination and discipline. Just wondering miss-missy, have you managed to make a significant dent in your debt by cutting back as you're suggested. Does it really work?
Also, I like the idea of having a budget for each week and then any leftover can be paid off a debt on a credit card. I think if I've got cash in an envelope or somewhere, I'll be more disciplined rather than using a debit card. This will sound really ridiculous to many others, but it only occured to me today that the reason to cut the grocery shopping back is to pay of debt elsewhere. It's as simple as that. I'm really motivated now. We have a Netto nearby but I've not been particularly swayed. Thought lots of the prices weren't much different to Tesco. Will look again and also see if there's an Aldi or Lidl anywhere nearby.
I have been 'down shifting' with groceries and been buying lots of own brands but can do more.
Have made a decision to cut back hair/clothes/present buying and much more. Would love a breadmaker to cut down bread costs but can't justify the expense at the moment. Oh well
A question - does anyone know where the menu planning is on the Old style board. I've tried to seach for menu plans but couldn't seem to find them.
Thanks again.0 -
hi glad to hear your already starting to make plans it does get very addictive moneysaving and paying your debts off
back when i found this site our debts were just over £65000 :eek:
that was in 2007 and now 3 years on are total stand at £28000
its not been easy i have done a lot of shuffling around with cc which helped reduce quicker by getting lower aprs ive sold loads on ebay although finding that harder the more the costs rise from fees, we do carboots every year which i quite enjoy i have to say i only do them during the summer months as dont like the cold. im already putting stuff into boxes in the garage for this years carboots, if you choose to do this ask friends and family for anything they dont want
my first couple of years everything i could possibly cut was cut to bare minimum we start going round to spend sundays with OH family and they made a lovely sunday dinner (free meal for us
)
it does get you down at times but i keep a monthly sheet of how much the debt total is and so can see the figure immediately its a real buzz to see it come down
glad you like my shopping idea i love it nearly every monday morning i can pay something off.
just remember it can be done, it isnt easy, but you will feel much happier in the long run0
