Defualts disappeared confused

Hello,

Looking for advice - my husband had x 2 defaults on his file which were settled in 2007 we thought thy would stay on his file for 6yrs from this date? But when we have been on experian and equifax there is no sign of these at all? Can anyone explain this?

Does this mean he is ok now?

Thanks.

They are removed 6 years after the original recorded default date, settled or not.

Has it been 6 years since that?

  • No this is it it hasnt been six years the last report he got which we cannot locate had them on and now this doesnt have them and neither does the experian one.

We have moved a few times and may have put the addresses in slightly different order or times but this shouldnt affect it should it as on te file it showes all the old addresses anyway.

    Nothing there at all???
  • Confused - someone said somewhere on here sometimes if thy r settled then dont show but company has record is this correct? could this b why?

When did he first default on these debts?

I think as fermi said, it is likely to be that defaults stay on your credit file for 6 years from the date they default occured.

Therefore, if you defaulted on 1st January 2004 and settled on 1st December 2008, the default would disappear 6 years from 1st January 2004.
  • I am not sure when he did but presume it must have been much earlier or thy would still be there as I doubt thy make many mistakes.

He still has one debt that he makes a regular payment to a debt agency that was a default but has come off as it was six years end of last year but he still owes money to this company so should this not be still showing? otherwise how can mortgage lenders etc get a true reflection of what soemone owes etc?

A default only lasts for 6 years, whether it's paid off or not. I too used to be under the impression that it lasted for 6 years from the date the debt was settled, but it's not.

There is no way a mortgage lender or anyone can trace the debt you have once the default is over 6 years old.
  • If your default/s have gone, be happy ! Just check your credit scores with Equifax & Experian to see what it brings up. I know a few friends that have seen old data disappeared from their credit files for no reason, sometimes files get wiped when big takeovers happen, they get in a right pickle and data good & bad gets wiped off! I'm sure if its bad data no one will be querying it lol!
