Advice on Edinburgh Hotel
Hi, I am looking for a nice city center hotel for myself and 2 pals to stay in on 29th May for 1 night, we are looking to see a show to, any ideas or anyone know of any good deal going, not want to pay a fortune and want one room to save on money, thanks in advance x
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

The Apex on Waterloo Place which is at the East end of Princes Street is quite new and in a lovely building.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is on at the Playhouse at that time and is a 5 min walk from the hotel, all the pubs and restaurants are obviously within walking distance too. The other options for shows haven't announced their schedules that far in advance yet.
At the west end of Princes Street slightly further out is the Hilton which will be a bit cheaper than the Apex

There's too many hotels to name them all but you will get these two for around £50-£60 each per night with many cheaper and many more expensive available, depends what you are looking for really.
Edit: just noticed you said 2 friends so these probably won't do triple rooms, somewhere like this might be better and cheaper at £78 for a triple room, even closer to the Playhouse too !

Why don't you try Travelodge or Holiday Inn Express. You could book a family room for around the £75 mark, so long as you don't mind sharing a bed with someone?
Some of the hotels are really central.
Failing that, there's also the 5* Youth Hostel which is on Leith Walk
