  • I am in the Army and told my gym I was posted abroad, they cancelled the contract no questions asked, a little white lie might get you out of this!

  • How did you do it though? I've heard you have a meeting with the manager there about it,Or did you just post them a letter? did you have to prove this?
  • What are the cancellation terms on your contract? Do you have any exteme circumstances which led to you needing to cancel? Have you made any payments?
Generally they are difficult to get out of as you sign up for a 12 month contract. If you don't pay they will attempt to pursue payment for the remainder of the 12 months and you can then treat it the same as any other debt.
Talk to the centre manager and see if he'll let you cancel on goodwill, be prepared to argue your case or plead extreme circumstances.

  • Check your copy of the contract first very carefully would be my advice. FF are crafty sods.

I signed up for a 3 month contract with FF. When I cancelled 6 months later I was told I could not because it was a 12 month contract. They even helpfully sent me a copy of the contract clearly showing this.

Equally helpfully, I had my copy too :D Mine did not have the term ticked in it at all - so they amended their copy after I had signed and left.

Not long after I pointed this out to them and the Office of Fair Trading, I got a call from the CEO's assistant confirming that my contract would be cancelled with immediate effect and the DDs they had taken since I requested cancellation were returned to me. :j

Didn't you know he was going to college and didn't have a car last month?

Did your brother ask you to take out gym membership for him?

Can you get one of your mates to use the membership in your brother's name?
