This should be passed on to as many people as possible inc other forums etc.
When VAT was reduced to 15% the chancellor added 2% duty to fuel to offset the reduction in tax collected from motorists. Now VAT has gone back to 17.5% this hidden tax has not been removed - hence recent rises in your fuel costs. Sign the petition at the link below to get this tax removed.

I've heard that they're going to start charging $4.99 a month to start using Facebook. I for one will be joining a Facebook group to try to ensure that this doesn't happen.0 -

How is it a "hidden" tax?0 -
In view of the government's commitment to reducing carbon emissions, reducing pollution and the need to gather more tax revenue, I would respectfully say you have absolutely zero chance of receiving a positive response.
In fact I'm pretty certain that fuel tax will rise again in the summer0 -
this didn't just happen to fuel - alcohol duty is the same.0

I thought the 2% rise was always planned?
Just happened to coincide with the VAT reduction so not a hidden stealth TAX at all.
Fuel prices will continue to increase..0 -
The 2p duty was put on to get around the loss in money from VAT. We were told at the time this would be reversed when VAT went back to 17.5%.
Since then, the 2p had been included in the budget, with a further 2p in April. The other planned duty increases also went ahead.
As it was in the budget, but not talked about, its now a permanent thing, rather than a temporary thing.
Boils down to the fact we were lied to, again. And no petition is going to get them to change it!0 -

It would appear that the 2p rise was permanent at the time, so I don't think we were lied to
Obscure paper story.....
Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Yes - we were all stupid - stating that fuel tax was being adjusted to negate the impact of the reduction in VAT made us all assume that it was a revenue neutral adjustment for green reasons whereas the small print of course was very different. What surprises me is that this has become a story now but passed unnoticed at the start of January - anyone would think the BBC were biased...I think....0

Nothing to do with carbon emissions and everything to do with revenue.
All this enviro claptrap is simply dressing up tax rises to make them more acceptable to the lumpen proletariat."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "0
