Has anyone made their own veil or knows how to?

I really want a cathedral veil, but simply cannot afford to spend upwards of £150 for one, I've had a look on ebay but always get outbid or they go for £80+ there are cheaper ones but i'm worried in case they are uneven or really poor quality.
I've found some net in john lewis which is reasonably priced but haven't a clue where to begin, I've done a quick google search and there are loads of tutorials but I guess I just wanted to see if anyone else has successfully made a veil first. I dont want to waste money if it really isnt as easy as it looks. I just want a simple long plain edge veil with some diamantes....why are they sooo expensive?
Also any ideas what i would use to attach the little diamante/crystals?

Try having a look at the wedding veil shop before you decide to make it:
http://www.theweddingveilshop.co.uk
They will make you a veil and I just went through it - http://www.theweddingveilshop.co.uk/id562.html - for a cathedral length, single layer with no crystal embellishments it came out at £50. That's for the slimmest one so would be more for a wider one or with two layers.
You could get one of those and then just stick some sparklies on. The shop will send you samples too if you want (I got a sample from them but have since decided not to have a veil).
Even with sparklies it was £75 - still well below the prices you'd seen.
Obviously making your own would be cheaper than this but it might be an option if you don't feel confident making it.
For attaching crystals, you can get a special type of glue from craft shops. Some of the glues need to be heated in a glue gun but there should be others around where that's not necessary. There was a thread recently where someone made a sparkly tiara; you could ask her what glue she used...0
