Kitchens and Bathrooms

Hi Guys,

Recently bought a new home - well not new, but new to me lol and it needs a slight overhaul in the kitchen and bathroom department.. Can anyone recommend a decent place that supplies and fits a kitchen and/or bathroom?

Obviously im looking for somewhere competitively priced, but mainly im after something that is reliable, good service and preferably can offer to do the whole job ie. Plumbing etc

If not the plumbing, that will probably be the next thread lol just new to home front and dont want to be conned, paying enough for the mortgage lol!

Thanks!

  • I know you want someone to do the whole thing but in my view this is the most expensive way to do it. I got my kitchen in B&Q (I waited for a half price door deal) and then got my own joiner, plumber etc to do the job. Same with the bathroom. The B&Q fitting service was going to cost more than the actual kitchen believe it or not.
  • hi cheers for the advice!!
  • I would still consider going for "supply & fit". Price around. It means that you only have one business to deal with. Otherwise you have to engage either a business or separate tradesmen to do plumbing, electrics, plastering, tiling, flooring etc. The one business has to stand over everything they do from start to finish - the buck stops with them and not every individual you employ! The choice is yours!
  • Would agree with Ex-Spendaholic but not entirely with Sheerdelight...... if you try to get one person to organise it all... it'll cost you an arm and a leg for exactly the reasons Sheerdelight has pointed out.... if one person is going to stand over the job lot.... they're sure as hell going to make sure the are well covered...

Could I suggest you go middle of the road...Get the kitchen through B&Q or Halden & Fischer ( H & F this is where I got ours and was very happy with their service) and get them to fit the units but organise the plumber / Spark / Tiler yourself.. When we got ours priced up I did find a lot of the specialist Kitchen & Bathroom companies quite expensive compared to the companies like B&Q or Halden's (Haldens also do Bathrooms and you can get it all designed up in the Lisburn branch) (P.S. NO I don't work for them... just found them very good)

    Personally would advise the following,
Get a plan of the kitchen done up (B&Q & H&F & Homebase whoever you chose offer this service)
before it's installed, based on said plan get a spark in to make sure all your sockets, switches etc etc are where they are needed & where you want them. nothing worse than trying to fit sockets once the kitchen's in.
If moving the location of the sink or adding a dishwasher or the likes make sure you have the required power outlets & water /wastes close by.... again a real pain in the butt if trying to do it after..

It's easy to do all this when the old kitchen is ripped out...

There's a bit of organising involved but it'll save you a packet in my view than doing the one-stop-shop.....

    hope this helps
  • You would be quite surprised at how little difference there is in price between B&Q and local kitchen suppliers. We got ours from Indie Kitchens in Bangor, they supplied the Kitchen fitters and we got our own Plumber and electrician. I would definitely price about.
