Got myself a slow cooker

After reading so much in praise of them on here I bought a slow cooker today. As there are 5 of us I went for the 6.5l Morphy Richards. Can't wait to use it - but will have to till the weekend!
Using the tips on here I've already cut about £30+ off my weekly shopping bill (don't want to say what it was
) but I know some of you on here are still doing way better than me. I shopped at Aldi for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised although I didn't get everything I needed so will still have to go to Tesco tomorrow.
I can't believe how much I've learnt on here in just a few weeks :j

Hi
I got a slow cooker earlier this year and I luuurve it! Not used it much since the weather got warmer though as its been salad, salad, salad but your post has reminded to get using it again!
You can buy much cheaper cuts of meat and yet they still melt in your mouth when they've been done in the SC!
I shop at Aldi too and at first I couldn't get everything I wanted there but now I just mainly stick to fresh fruit/veg and meat/poultry/fish, bit of dairy thrown in so can't go wrong really!
I halved my shopping bill by regular trips to Aldi instead of Asda!
Have fun experiementing with your SC.

Thats the one I have talitha for a family of 6 and I can still cook extras in it too
Good luck with your cooking...I have a paella cooking in it at the moment
Its great when its an evening when people are arriving home for their dinner at different times and I'm out too.
I'm sure you're going to find lots of receipes that you'll lurrve on these boards.0 -
i have just got one too and its great am just cooking some gooseberrys in mine just now for a pudding ... that is as long as you remember to switch it on:o0

That's the one that I bought this week too for my family of five. I made a great veg/ lentil curry in it yesterday - managed to cook in for about 12 hours though before we were actually home to eat it.
One word of warning though it's so big I ended up putting some stock in to fill it up to half way and it stayed quite watery. It took ages to boil off some of the liquid at the end. Quite pleased with my first attempt though:T
Wondering what to do in it next as I have meat eating OH and Veggie kids.
Does anyone know can you cook rice in this model?

It's great to use this time of year too - it doesn't warm up the kitchen so much and you'll be surprised how well a bowl of soup goes down when you're sick of salad."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

I believe these now carry a warning about this, but just in case. You should never use one to cook red kidney beans - the sort you use for Chili. It is essential that these are cooked at a high temperature to kill off a toxin they otherwise contain. Apart from that the slow cooker is a great bit of kit.M.E..... MORE than you know0

unless of course your k beans are coming out of a tin ashby when you can:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Well yes, I did say to cook red beans, the tinned ones are cooked and probably easier all round.M.E..... MORE than you know0

Sally - that was one of the reasons I wanted one as often everyone is in at different times. I think it will be a big help.0 -
