Not very MSE - looking for a "posh" hotel

Hi,

This goes against every fluid ounce of MSE blood in my body, but I'm looking for a "posh" hotel to take my wife for our anniversary.
Have no idea where to start looking. Normally when booking a night away I'd find the nearest Travelodge, but want something nicer than that for this.

Am happy to pay what it costs, but how do you know you're getting what you pay for?

It'll be a Friday night at the end of April. Surrey / SW London area.

Many thanks,

Jim

How about the Richmond hill hotel?
I've stayed there and it was very nice... good food and delicious breakfast! They have a nice spa and you can go for a walk in the park too.

It's not too expensive either (though a bit more than the Travelodge...)
  • Malmaison is my favourite, and its surprisingly not that expensive for what you get.

Have a look on the handpicked hotels website. They're all fabulous! I'd love it if my other half took me to one of those
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

This is Newbury, not sure if its too far for you? I have stayed there a few times and the ground are amazing. If you go for the standard rooms they are in the 'new' block which is not too amazing, however the mews rooms and suites in 'main' hotel are lush, plus being a ramada the price it pretty fab too!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

Along those lines too how about here:

Just down the road from Twickers too ;)

Thought I had better explain, have stayed there for a bargain price myself as my sister used to work there many moons ago. Really lovely dinner.
  • Hi Jim - lovely request - so here are some hotel booking tips: try the following websites: lastminute.com, laterooms.com, superbreak.com, booking.com. Sometimes though the hotels own websites can be cheaper. Tripadvisor can be useful for reviews of hotels but some guests (Americans ?) complain about everywhere !! There are lots of deals on depending on when and where you go. I have stayed at some good Qhotels and De Vere hotels. Good luck.

Hi. Found one on here called Woodlands Park Hotel. Looks wonderful and exactly the sort of distance away I was looking for. And as this is our 5th anniversary thought the name makes it perfect.
Way above the usual budget, but it looks worth it.
try the following websites ... laterooms.com
Booked through there for cashback - so slightly redeemed myself from an MSE POV!

Many thanks to all who replied. Most useful.
  • That's lovely, hope you have a great night. xxx

For utter, blissful relaxation you can't beat Pennyhill Park (hotel and spa)

Would be at the absolute top end of any budget but they've got a good deal (relative to their normal prices!) on at the moment for Sunday nights - £380 for a deluxe room, dinner, breakfast, use of the spa on both days Sunday/Monday and a treatment in the spa for each of you. This offer runs till end of March but may be renewed afterwards - end of March is their financial year-end so new offers get decided after that.

My company took us all there with our partners last summer for a night and it was the nicest place I've ever stayed. I'm taking my mum there the last Sunday in March as a "thank you for all the help with my wedding" and girlie getaway; she's always wanted to go to a top spa. Can't wait. :D Will probably never get to to go again lol.

As I said though, still a top-end budget place. Another good option is the 'secret rooms' on last minute.com - you get good hotels at really good rates. You don't know what the exact hotel is until after you've booked, but you do see the hotel description and if you google phrases from it you can usually work out which one it is. ;)

Or you could do a theatre and hotel package in London? I usually book theatre tickets using discounttheatre.com and have done a show/hotel deal with them before.

Please please can you tell my other half how to do stuff like this

http://www.hotelduvin.com these are a group of small luxury boutiqe hotels set in quirky places around the country ,often strange buildings such of jail houses and hospitals ( cant remember which one is the jailhouse ,
I have stayed at the ones in Bristol and Brighton in various rooms and never been dissapointed I like them because they are small and intimate and not big chain type of hotels, i think the biggest is around 45 rooms Some of them now have spas

strange to mention but there bathrooms are totally amazing, Victorian style claw baths and a huge walk in wall to wall shower with monsoon showers heads (sounds strange but you have to see it to appreciate it) i would kill for a bathroom like this

if you can get the loft suits then or the terrace suites then you have lots of space and a seperate living/bedrooms area and a gallery bathroom suite, overlooking the bedroom /lounge

cant comment on the food /resturants as i have never ate in there resturants
