One to one sewing tuition, would you be interested if it were local?

I've been thinking about this for a wee while, but if someone was willing to come to your home to give you 1 to 1 tuition, on your own sewing machine (or to use theirs for a nominal charge), teaching you at any level from beginner upwards, is it something you'd seriously consider and what would be a reasonable cost per hour?

I have just started taking one to one sewing classes at a local sewing machine shop. I had the choice to learn on their machine or my own machine. They charge £25 per hour and for a complete beginner like me (cant sew a button on straight) it was worth every penny! :D

With regards to coming to my house I think that would be even better - save my lugging my machine to the shop.

Amandada - where do you live? If you put this up you may find a few customers straight away. :T

Bit too far for me! Nice idea though, hopefully you'll get some people in your area.
  • I am already a qualified dressmaker so I wouldn't actually take this up myself. I would definitely add in a charge for using your machine. You will have to supply needles which aren't cheap and then there is the wear and tear on the machine to consider. Petrol is another thing that has to be factored in too, although that applies whatever machine they use.

We are looking at singing lessons for my daughter and they are £12 for half an hour in school time so I think £15 an hour is quite reasonable.

I found that it was useful in a class setting as although we all made different things, when we got fed up and frustrated, the others kept us going. Its all about confidence and not being afraid to make mistakes. Just wish material was cheaper so I wouldn't be so concerned cost wise of making mistakes.

Now - where was that fabric I've been trying to turn into a curtain........ for 8 months!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Slightly OT but I considered doing the same thing for cooking lessons but I was worried about the safety aspect of it ie going into strangers houses.

On saying that, I'd be interested if it was in my local area because I like the idea of 1 to 1 tuition.
