last year i recieved a fine from companies house for £750
i kept putting it off and finally got a letter from the Lewis group,
so i paid to companies house.
i now have recieved a letter from the Lewis group for a bill of£983.44
when i phoned to explain i paid the £750 thay said it must be a mistake but i still owe them the difference for legal expencies.I can pay them over the phone.
I asked him to re-submit me the correct bill as it was wrong and i wouldnt be paying then and there as i have no idea who they are.
is this right as i paid the initial debt?

What was the fine in relation to? presumably late submission of company accounts/returns?
Whether you owe any more money would depend on whether the fine had increased by the time you paid it and whether any interest/fees were to be paid on top.
Do you have the paperwork of the original fine? Do you have proof that you made the £750 payment?
I have to say I didn't know companies house used external debt collectors.
Do you mean you phoned lewis group or companies house? I would probably send the prove it letter asking them to prove you owe the debt and explain why - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
yes it was late returns
yes the debt was cleared with companies house, they are claming £204 legal fees and £28 charge fee
yes i phoned the lewis group as the sent a letter saying i owed the £750 plus their fees
thats when they admitted it was a mistake and i only owed for legal fees, whih they have on the letter as expences.
thanks for the link to the prove it letter.:T0 -
