Selling clothes

Hi everyone,

Im thinking of helping my girlfriend. She wants to source clothes and sell them via ebay and facebook, etc. Im willing to put in the money for her but was after peoples thoughts. i.e. sourcing the clothes, setting up, pitfalls, etc.

Im particularly interested in the best places to source our stock as we are inexperienced in this field. We live in Liverpool

Any and all suggestions, ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated as I would like to have as much information as possible before I throw any money at such a venture.

Many Thanks Joe

  • You could try buying kids clothes from charity shops.

For example certain brands of kids clothes seem to see well second hand on ebay.

Brands like Gap, Next, Boden seem to sell well.

Buying and selling clothes are actually a good online business especially if you can find merchants who sell real cheap wholesale clothes. eBay and Facebook are actually good sites to start with. You can also put up your own blog and make that as your online clothing shop aside from eBay and Facebook.

When setting up your own clothing shop online, you must first know your priorities for you to be able to run your business smoothly and efficiently. It would also be good to decide on what clothing line you want to purchase.

When you choose to sell your clothes on eBay, you need to create messages and logos on the products you purchased. This way, your modifications will look like you really manufacture and distribute those clothes, instead of just reselling them.

Another means is to sell them based on good retail rates. The objective is to have people earning for you. Do not tag the price very high, though. Also, offer discounts on liquidation for your customers.

You also have to check your products well, from the buttons, zippers, seams, and fabric.

Purchasing wholesale clothes and selling them is a good business as long as you know how to make a profit and not waste money and time. Every single thing you do hinge on your profit, so try be very careful.

I think you have a QVC outlet shop in warrington. I presume they sell their returned stock. Give their customer services a ring. I don't know if it would be of any use to you. also buy a copy of the trader newspaper from smiths.

Sorry to but in but how do you sell stuff via facebook please.....i have not heard of this before :)
  • Hi Mojo2009,

I started selling clothes on ebay last year, finding most of my items at carboot sales.

It is a bit hit and miss with what you might get, but as I enjoy going to them anyway it wasn't really a problem.

I find that items from Next and Bench etc go quite well, where as what I would class as more designer clothes like Abercrombie & Fitch and Phase 8 did not get as many bids. I think the more well known the brand name the more (hopefully) bids it will get. You'll be surprised just how many things you can buy at a carboot that are still brand new with tags!!!

    Good luck!

    depends where you are located

ebay warehouse job lots and best i buing in bulk but you may get repetitve items.
else try boot sales with lots of junk clothes (but will be used)

ideally your location will determien sales, a chavvy area will like common brands in boot sales etc.

id not trade on flebay due to the fee personally, and the inability to no longer make profit on postage lol
  • I've tried and tried to re-sell clothes on e-bay and it's just not profitable enough for me.

    :(
  • can make good money. see my pm for how
