I am looking for oldstyle or wartime cook books, or even very frugal cookbooks
I want to do more veg, but not vegetarian because that's always complicated and I hate cooking very much. I just want to cut down the amount of meat we eat - but he can't eat pasta or carbs --hence the veg bit
So anybody got any titles of good ones please give me !

Old wartime recipes you could try him with:Woolton Pie
Ingredients
1 lb Potato, diced
1 lb Swede, diced
1 lb Cauliflower, diced
1 lb Carrot, diced
3 or 4 Spring Onions (if possible)
1 tsp vegetable extract or stock cube
1 tbsp Oatmeal
Chopped parsley
Pastry (for the crust)
MethodMix together the vegetables, vegetable extract and oatmeal and cook
together for around 10 minutes in just enough water to cover.
Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from sticking.
Allow to cool and place into a pie dish.
Sprinkle with the parsley before covering with a pastry crust.
Bake in a moderate oven until the pastry is nicely browned and serve with hot gravy.
This pie should serve 4 to 5 people.And for you::DCarrot fudgeIngredients:CarrotsGelatinOrange essence
Method:Finely grate carrots and cook four tablespoons full in just enough water to cover for 10 minutes.Cut into cubes and eat or as I did try one and put out for the foxes who did like it:rotfl:
Add flavouring with orange essence, grated orange rind or orange squash/cordial.
Melt a leaf of gelatin.
Add gelatin to mixture.
Cook quickly for a few minutes stirring all the time.
Spoon into a flat dish.
Leave to set.I have 'we'll eat again' somewhere, will see if I can dig it out this weekend and post it to you.0 -

I think it's thriftlady has some wartime books and/or recipes, I think she did a challenge a while back where her family lived on the equivalent of wartime rations
anyway, I'm sure she'll be along as soon as she notices a thread with 'cookbook' in the title

The thing with cookery books is that I hate cooking. We dont eat fancy, no chillies/curries/garlic/rice - and I hate cooking. So the wartime stuff will suit me much better , no strange foreign ingredients LOL !0
