Washing soda with some boiling water poured on. Leave to soak for a little while, it should completely clean the tea stain off. The problem with bleach is that, while it makes the tea stain invisible, the scunge (whatever it is) remains so it gets dirty very quickly after. Washing soda will also help clean the drains when you pour it down the sink afterwards too.
    And its very cheap!

An old toothbrush & toothpaste works a treat ;)
Fizzy denture tablet & boiling water also works, but almost everyone has toothpaste to hand.

lemon juice - accidently found this out when using my tea stained mug for honey and lemon! Leave to soak with water overnight and wipe off (and I drink strong black tea!)
  • I second the vote for baby sterilising fluid or tablets.

  • Oddly a baby wipe ( wilco cheap brand one) will take tea stains out of mugs. Wash the mug after with water so it is not too fragrant smelling.
