advice for joint mortgages after separation

HI ALL
I have a joint fixed rate mortgage (northern rock) with my now ex partner . I no longer live the the address to which the mortgage relates, my ex partner continues to pay the mortgage. I wish to desolve my responsibilities to the mortgage and remove all my liabilities. can any one give me any options that are available?

Your ex needs to buy you out which involves them reapplying for the mortgage in thier sole name.

As conrad says,

If the house is in negative equity, could be an issue.

If it has equity in it, then you would/ could be entitled to a pay off as your EX remortgages in his/her's sole name, but unless they have cash or a top up as LTV 's remain a problem for now, and in the future.

Only when the remortgage in his/her sole name has taken place will you be under no obligation, at the moment, you are jointly liable for the debt until it has been fully repaid.

This does not mean you are responsible for your 50% of the mortgage, its all of it, if your (ex) partner cannot afford to pay.
