ipod from usa

due to great exchange rates an ipod form amazon.com the us site cost about 160 pounds which is 40 quid cheaper than amazon.co.uk and the us site has plenty in stock. only problem is, if they post it or sending by ups or other company would ihave to pay any import duty ? if so how much. Please help

Yup, chances are that Her Majesty's C&E would want their cut .

Depends how an iPOD is categorised, but you could end up paying duty of 9.5% and VAT at 17.5% !!

This will give you an idea, but the courier firm may add on their 'handling fee' which can also add another £10 to £20 to the bill!!

Have you looked on eBay? Some US companies there state that they will cover import costs - though I have never tried it !!

I think you may find that legit companies are prevented by Apple from exporting ipods. the way round this is to find one of the companies that provide you with an American address and then post the item on when it arrives, but of course this costs! I looked at the possibility of buying from the States last year but in the end bought from Apple UK. The volume restrictor on EU models can be disengaged so it has the same volume level. Unless you can get a really good deal on ebay from America it probably isn't worth it.
