Not a lot to say really. Just that we spotted a tiny estate agents in the area we wanted, bought a house they had on their books and they helped us with all the conveyancing, from getting a solicitor, to opening a bank account. They came with us to the lawyer's (notario - a different lawyer to the solicitor) to sign the documents, which they translated (verbally) for us. The sale went through in four days.
But I know nothing about the mechanics of getting a mortgage.....sorry!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Our apartment was bought with part of the equity in our UK property. We have a one account and basically had paid off a big chunk of that which we then used for our own place.
The whole process was really easy, we used an English solicitor over there who spoke fluent Spanish and took care of everything - even down to sorting out the electricity direct debit for us.
We haven't looked back since.
You do need to think carefully however as to whether you want to buy as an investment for the future and are prepared to keep your place for a few years. I think the days of making a fast buck are long gone - just my opinion though.
Good luck with your purchase0 -

c must not rent out apartment for less than monthly mortgage!
d must have 1.5 in higher savings account
I sell Spanish property in UK now and last weekend was in S East England and someone came into the exhibition and sid their friend had paid a builder 70000 pounds and never saw the builder again.
I have now gone back to my original mortgage bank one of the top five in Spain and get excellent service he the asistant manager will responfd to emails same day, same hour in many cases, they have a simple form which i can send you if you send a private message, yes I do get commission from the bank,
The remortgage bank i used did not have an english speaking managr and his assistant would be rated one out of ten for english.
Always use a spanish solicitor with an office in spain and uk, then you have more control, and they must and will check for bank guaranteem neevr hand any monies over without your solicitor okaying it,
