Confusion with MCS and Equidebt...HELP!

I am scratching my head over this one.
I have a credti card debt of about £4k through HSBC which I defaulted on a few years ago and it went to MCS who chased me but I failed to respond, it then went to Equidebt who I am dealing with at the moment over some other debts but when I spoke to them about this one they have said that HSBC have requested the debt to be returned to them (on the 13/10/2009). I went into an HSBC branch and spoke to the Manager who passed me the contact details for MCS. I called them again who say my debt is not with them it is with Equidebt!? After another call to the very kind and helpful Equidebt I can confirm that there account for that debt is closed and has been returned to HSBC!
Where is this debt! I want to try and arrange settlement of it.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Regards

i would personally ask for letters (i know more calling them) from each of them confirming when they have closed the account and who they passed it on too, it could be that one of the companies has actually just misplaced the paperwork and it hasnt been put on their system yet
if you get the letters from each company you could end up being lucky and having written evidence that you no longer owe it (even thou it would be due to their admin error)Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
When was the last time anyone chased you for this debt? and was it equidebt?
Have you checked your credit report recently to see what it says on there in relation to the debt?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Tixy I am pretty sure it was Equidebt but a long time ago now, last year I reckon.
Credit check says that the file was updated on 3/01/2010 and then it says this:
The account is in 'default'. You failed to keep to your credit agreement and have not responded satisfactorily to requests to bring your payments up to date, so the credit agreement has ended.
Am planning on contact MCS first on Monday morning and if they say it is closed then I will ask them to send this in writing, go to HSBC branch to discuss to be sure and then do the same with Equidebt, any other suggestions?0
