Remortgage - Certified Documents

Hey,

We are remortaging and have taken a mortgage with the same bank that hold our current/savings and Isa accounts. I'm a bit baffled why they need certified documents, when they hold all our identity documents anyway.

Anyway, to get them certified, can a relative do it?

Other issue is all utility bills are online, so I need to print them off, is this suitable.

Thanks o wise ones...

We certify documents. I'm FSA registered so institutions accept my certification, but I don't think any old person can do it. You'll need a solicitor, Accountant or IFA/Broker as far as I know.

Thanks Conrad, my sister-in-law is a solicitor which is why I asked if a relative could do it?

    Should be fine
  • Update, I phoned local solicitors thay said it would be £5 for the first document and £1 each after. I only had 4 documents that needed certifying.

They only charged me £4. :j A billy bargain!

Why not just send the orginials in? Recorded delivery is even cheaper.

I never send original documents through the post. I've had bad experiences with this, even losing a datapost letter to the states in the early nineties. "We'll refund the fee" doesn't cut it when the letter really needed to get there.

Also, there is no need to send original documents. When remortgaging (with Woolwich/Barclays) I simply took the original documents into a Barclays branch and they copied them and certified the copies at no cost.

I also have online banking and don't recieve paper statements so Lloyds just printed off my statements and certified them. Barclays were happy to accept them.

Because it says originals will not be returned. I want to keep my original passport and driving licence. For £4 its worth the hassle.
