Will this be safe in the oven?

I've just realised that my massive casserole dish got broken so I don't have anything to make my Butternut Squash Curry in. I've take out the inside of my slow cooker and put it in that inside the oven. Will it be ok? Suppose it must be able to withstand high temperatures?

My SC instruction book specifically warns against doing this. I imagine that gentle heat at the bottom of the vessel is not the same as high heat all over.

Can you imagine the mess you'd have to clean up if the pot shattered while in the oven?
  • Why not just cook your curry in the slow cooker?

It depends on the slow cooker. I've got a CrockPot slow cooker and you can use the bowl in the oven or on the hob as well as in the slowcooker, but other ones might not be able to withstand the high heat of an oven.

cos I am a total numpty and didn't think of that :rotfl: Have taken it out of the oven now and put it in the slow cooker :o

  • It was really nice actually!! And it didn't explode in the 15 minutes it was in the oven :rotfl:
    Recipe is 1 onion
    1 butternut squash
2 tbsp curry paste (but I couldn't find any so used chilli powder)
2 cans chopped tomatoes (drain the water but keep it)
    veg stock
    dried red lentils
    spinach

Shallow fry the onions, add the cubed butternut squash, stir in the curry paste and tomatoes
Add veg stock to the tomato juice til there is 600ml of liquid. Add to the pan with the lentils. Bring it to the boil, remove it from the heat and then put in oven for about 30 - 45mins
When ready add spinach and natural yoghurt (if you want)

Serve with rice or cous cous. We had ours with cous cous and it was lovely, and made loads too :D
