HSBC credit card

Due to me being silly with money a while back I went on a DMP which I have successfully stuck with for 2 years now.
One of the debts that is on the DMP is for a HSBC credit card which was maxed out at the limit (3k). My DMP of course has been paying a share of the payment each month to HSBC for this credit card, on the DMP statement it says I currently owe about £2400-ish, yet when I logged on to Equifax the balance they are reporting as outstanding shows as £4728 (this is current balance not default balance by the way)!
Can they do this? Is there anything I can do to lower this amount? I don't particularly want to pay an extra £2.3k if I don't have to!
Thanks.

i would contact you DMP provider (i hope it is one of the debt charities and not a fee charging one) and explain what you have found.
it might be that HSBC did not accept the DMP and freeze interest, in which case they could have been adding interest and charges onto the account over the last 2 years and the payment provided by the DMP was not covering the interest therefore meaning your debt was increasing
it might just be that Equifax has got the wrong details so do not automatically think it is this bad Equifax are not 100% accurateDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Bit of an update...
I have been phoning around various departments at HSBC, last person I spoke to claims my account was written off nearly 4 years ago and they've not received any money since then as payments towards the CC... Claims he will send me out a statement in the post to this effect, whether I receive it or not is another matter...
Spoke to CCCS (who my DMP is with) and they said they have been paying HSBC every month so they will get someone from their admin team on Monday to contact HSBC and find out what's going on!
Also submitted a dispute thing through Equifax's website as the guy at HSBC said I need to contact Equifax and get them to speak to HSBC who will 'confirm' that the account is closed and this other random balance amount is incorrect.
Gosh, what a nightmare! Maybe it would have been easier just to not pay anyone any money I owe? LOL0
