creditors being threatening

sorry if this seems a little vague but ive just paid my first payment to payplan for my DMP but in the time ive been waiting for it all to get set up some creditors have sent me debt collector letters, does this mean that the creditors no longer own my debt and i wont be able to be on a DMP. As soon as i spoke to payplan i rang all my creditors and told them the situation, but they dont seem to listen.
Thanks in advance

Hi there
As far as I've heard from others, threats like that can be just that - threats and nothing more. But even if your debts have been passed on, they don't really have any choice in the long run but to accept whatever payments you can afford.
Have payplan given you any advice about what to do with letters? I know some people forward all letters and payplan (or cccs or whoever) can deal with them. Give them a call and chat about it!! That's what they're there for - to help and advice you through the process. They're seen it all a thousand times before!
Best of luck

ive gone back to the stage of not opening letters again cos i know what they are
off to the job centre in a bit to look for another job, im being slowly pushed out of mine due to stupid manager seeing me as a threat. 0 -
tried to contact payplan, but no joy, anyone any idea how it works when your accounts get passed to DCA when ur trying to set up a DMP
thanks0 -
H there biglad,I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry, they are only threats, they are trying their hardest to get more money, and,in some cases it's works, but if you stick with your agreement and pay what you can afford, they will see they are going to get no more.
I would imagine the debts have just been passed to the companies own collection centre and will not be passed on to another DCA for a while yet.
Our DMP has been going with Payplan for abour 4 months and only now has 1 debt been sold on.
When a debt is sold on it put's you in a better position as they normally accept offers and leave you alone. The reason you are having threatening letters now is because the creditors know this.
Try not to worry, you'll get wrinkles!,and make sure you open the letters.Debt at highest £102k

Hi there biglad. Agree with livinginhope - try not to worry. It can get very confusing with "bad" debts because a) sometimes banks use a different headed paper which is actually their inhouse debt collection department, b) sometimes they instruct a debt collection agency (dca) to act as their agent but the bank still "owns" the debt and c) sometimes they will sell debts to another company (also a dca). In all of these cases the same principles apply though and there is no reason why a debt management plan cannot be set up. It helps if you tell the debt management company (payplan in your case?) and send the letters on as at least then they know who to write to. It can be a bit of a merry-go-round trying to keep up with the debt as it gets passed about!! Debt collection agencies are just that - they are not bailiffs and have no more powers than the original lender with regard to collecting debt. Keep sending the letters to payplan. Good luck. E0

Don't worry about it. Im with Payplan and nearly all my debts are with DCA. I just told them im dealing with Payplan gave them my reference number and snet the letters to Payplan for them to deal with which they did excellently.
Don't discuss things on the phone just stay calm and it will sort itself out mate
Good luck

Most DCAs seem to assume that you're trying to dodge your responsibilities and so take this stance to squeeze as much as they can.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0
