Wescot did they trace me ?

I have several creditors that I am repaying (All with debt collection agencies) and have been now for several years without any problems other than the regular reviews.
Then on the 29th Jan I had a credit search done by a company called Target, they turn out to be a tracing company.
Now today I get a letter from Wescot for £794 telling me that I promised to pay in full by the 8th Feb and I have not so I need to pay within 7 days !, now I have no recent debits (Last had a debt problem 8+ years ago) so it can't be that, so I am wondering if this search by the Tracing Company and now this letter are connected ?.
I of course wrote back telling them that I do not know what they are on about and to send me written proof of this debt and also my promise to pay in full !, so we will see, I think (And I am looking for some advice on this) that it is a very old debt that is by now statue barred and they are trying it on.
None of the reference numbers on the letter match any debt I have so I am a bit lost, the debt also mentions Aktiv Kapital 1st investments Ltd.

They may have traced the wrong person, common issue sadly. As you have already sent a prove it letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2
Just wait for a response, the onus is on them to prove the debt. Let them take you all the way to court if they fail to provide proof, its the perfect defence, you don't know anything about it, you told them they sent threatening letters demanding money with no proof you owe it. Looks bad on them. If they continue to pursue you without proof then submit a complaint to them, as well as to the OFT http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/resource_base/legal/cca/debt-collection
Guidelines on debt collection, worth reading - http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdfAlthough no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
