Bad Reputaion

I worked for a company for the past 2yrs doing admin, sadly HMRC closed us down, the FSA investigated us for "admin errors", these were purely down to directors bad desicions and not that of the admin team, eventually we built up quite a bad reputation, complaints mounted, management didn't respond etc and then HMRC stepped in and we were closed down due to none payment of tax (more of an excuse that one as the funds were there, the accounts were just frozen)

Anyway, I have this company on my CV, I've applied for loads of jobs and each and every on has turned me down, most recently today I "lacked experience" (the job stated NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY)

I'm starting to wonder if its because of the company I worked for and whats the best thing I could do to convince employers it wasn't my admin errors that closed us down.

If you're really confident that news of your old company's bad rep has gotten around so much (is the company well-known locally? Would the average small-medium employer know about its misgivings?), it might be worth popping in a short covering note, explaining that you were personally nothing to do with the dodginess, to get your CV past the initial screening hurdle.

I'd suggest that when applying to jobs that are in the same sector, as they're bound to know about the problems.

In unrelated sectors, where you can't be sure the company's rep is dragging you down, it may just be a case of too many applicants, too few jobs :(
    £1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50600

HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500

    "3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600
  • Hi, thanks, it is well known locally in both the legal and finance sector yes and probably even further afield. I'm currently getting together a couple of written references from my clients to go with my CV, maybe I will pop a note in there aswell, yeah, sounds good. Thanks.
