Barclays - Discharge Proof

If anyone could help then I'd appreciate it. I found out I'd been discharged from the Insolvency Register online... so I printed out a copy and took it to my bank and asked them to remove the bankruptcy marker. In April last year I lodged a complaint when my internet banking and telephone automated service was suspended due to the marker. My branch have tried to open me an upgraded account which has been refused and is now on appeal. I telephoned the Complaints department to inform them I was now discharged and see if they could help but I was told I'd have to send a copy of the Discharge Order (or whatever it is!) to the Legal Notices department and they would not accept anything less and nor would they search the Insolvency Register themselves to verify that I was now discharged. I think there is a £60 charge to get a copy of the Discharge order and as I am surviving on benefits due to ill health I cannot really afford this. Do I have to contact the OR for this or can I ask the court at which I made myself bankrupt. Many thanks in advance for any help:-) MissC

I think you get it from the court where you were declared BR.

If you are on benefits, you may be elegible to get the discharge certificate from the court free of charge. You will need to enquire at the court where you were declared bankrupt.
  • Well done on the discharge. I am waiting for early discharge...fingers crossed. Let us know how you get on with Barclays. I had the same probs with internet banking. If you are on an income related benefit you should be able to get the certificate free from the court.
  • Hi everyone, many thanks for all your replies. Will let you know how I get on. MissCx
  • The BR marker can only be removed in the branch.I was lucky i live in an area that has manager that is in the branch. There so called customer service, which is in India does not have a clue what they are talking about.See my previous post.Go back to the branch and insist on seeing someone in authority.
