I think it is a brilliant idea. I have been to lots of weddings where I didn't really know that many people THAT well before the wedding, but we could have shared lifts if we had known- it is quite frustrating. I would absolutely have loved an organised coach as a guest.

We are marrying in the town centre about 1 mile away from the reception hotel. We are actually arranging special transport from the wedding venue to the reception for everyone as part of the day, so a note is going into the invitations to say "leave your car at the hotel & use public transport to get to the venue" - means they won't have to worry about parking too.
  • We toyed with this idea as most of OH's family live about an hour away from where we're getting married, but in the end decided to leave it for the pure fact I wouldn't like to go to a wedding and not have the option of leaving when I wanted to.

Perhaps mention it to your guests as an idea and for those who want to take you up on the offer, perhaps you could offer to organise it all and I think deffo charge them per head. After all, as someone else has mentioned, it will cost them much less this way rather than them having to fork out for petrol. xx

Although I think this is a lovely idea...it's not very MSE.

No it's not, but in my eyes my family and OH's family aren't from the area we live and are getting married, and they are all forking out to pay for their own accomodation, therefore we felt for them coming to celebrate our day we'd do something in return.

In total we have 50members of our families travelling to stay in the area, that don't know the area, we can't expect them to pay out on taxis' or know where they are going if they drive.

Sometime we have to put things in order of importance, and to be honest I'd rather put a coach on for family members and not do wedding favours for example. However I am doing both. There are plenty of coach companies about to get quotes from to ensure you get the best deal.

The other thing is, if you don't know the area you don't have any idea where to park, there's no parking where we're supposed to be getting married, and there wouldn't be much point anyone driving as the reception will be accross the road and the hotel is less than a mile away, if we got a bus or coach for everyone to the church it will redce the cost after paying for the room then they can just leave when they want.

Another thing to suggest is see if the local taxi company will make a deal that if you only use them and tell guests to use them will they keep it n tarrif one. We ask that for staff and advertise the taxi companies number in the pub for customers
