Treating Yourself - Singletons and V'day!

Evening Folks,

Is anyone who is single going to treat themselves this Valentine's day?

I'm recently single and although happy with my life, i always find Valentine's day depressing at times.

So.....i've been to the local butcher got a steak for £2.20 and will be having that with chips and veg, followed by a homemade bread and butter pudding with custard while watching Dancing on Ice on Sunday night!! :rotfl:

Any other singletons got plans or treating themselves?!

Been married for 11 yrs, but think I'll do this as well - OH will forget as always!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Possibly... going to the farmers market on Sunday so might treat myself to something yummy!
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • Well as it's my first Valentines day in 15 years i've been on my own (and the kids will be away with their dad) i think i may pay more attention to the quality and quantity of alcohol i can consume rather than the food :rotfl:
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56
  • I agree - been on my own for 15 years now (bad marriage - dont ask!!!) -boys are growing up and doing their own things so will definately do something nice - got half a rib of beef in the freezer (special offer at xmas and cut in half) so think i will cook that with lots of yorkshires!!! Yum, Yum!!!
2010 has got to be better than the last two years!! :rotfl:

Weight loss to date: 3 Stone & 5lbs!! Weight loss this week: 2 lbs !!:j
  • I too am single, but one of my best friend's who now lives in Canada is flying home on Sunday and will be staying with me Monday night before we travel to Somerset for another friend's wedding. So I will be spending most of Valentine's Day cleaning my flat!! I don't think I'll do anything special food wise though, just have a freezer meal.

I'm effectively single. My OH lives a long way away. But won't be doing anything. Despite the fact that I have never had anything or done anything for Vday, I really don't agree with it. I think personally that you shouldnt need a day to be romantic, you can be that every day. Also it's an excuse for men to bung flowers and chocs(of which I dont like either anyway) and think they are being romantic and being a good partner/husband etc and that that is "romance" done for the year. To me something much more romantic is things like making soup when they are ill or buying you something like your favourite magazine just because etc.

My OH isnt romantic at all and in fact am not even sure if he "loves" me as such. He doesnt do birthdays or xmas etc either but one day he did get me a load of peanut butter kitkats from the machine at his work cos I liked it when I had one once and couldnt find anymore. That kind of thing is my idea of romance.

This year I will be going to see Fulham V Notts County in the cup on Vday ;)

Hope you have a nice evening ali :)

  • I've been single for 5 years, and I've made plans to go for a walk with a couple I know that have 3 year old twins (no room for romance in their marriage at the moment!) and then back to theirs for tea and biscuits!

I'll have something nice later on for dinner, but unsure what as yet.... I have loads of yummy stuff in the freezer (LOL - in plastic boxes following bulk cooking!) so I won't go hungry, but I might treat myself to a bar of chocolate as I've just hit the 3 stone loss mark this week!

I have invited 5 single girl friends around for Sunday lunch and we will be eating, drinking and making merry!

Big chicken roast dinner, apple pie and custard and several bottles of some Califirnian Zinfandel wine.

    Oh happy days!

I'm with Reverbe on this one - I've never seen the point of Valentine's Day except as a way for greetings card manufacturers to get their hands on more of our cash.

I'll be going to the pub quiz at my local as I do every Sunday - it's got a Valentine's theme but the organiser is an... um... interesting character, so I doubt it will be the stereotypical plastic hearts-type theme (a balloon popping competition has been mentioned, which should go down really well with the neighbours, I don't think! ;))
Back after a very long break!
