Help!!

I have having huge problems with HSBC so need some advice if possible.

I started a DMP in December 2009 and have been making payments to all my creditors since then. Northern Rock and Barclaycard accepted the offers straight away but not HSBC.

My debt with HSBC amounts to about £12000 - this was for a loan, one credit card and an over draft. I had banked with them for over 20 years but have obviously left and open a new current account with another bank. Once they received the letter from Payplan they sent me a new loan agreement which was consolidating all 3 of their debts and was for the amount Payplan were suggesting I pay them each month. On Payplans instruction I sent a letter refusing this loan. In the letter I explained why and asked them to speak to Payplan directly.

They are now calling me 3 or 4 times a day and have as yet not accepted my DMP offer but they are accepting my payments each month from Payplan.

I don't really know what else I can do at this stage. I just want HSBC to accept so I can relax and get on with my DMP and my life! If anyone has any HSBC experience please can you let me know??

Thanks

Sounds like they are trying to get you to sign up to a managed loan - which is a bad move so Payplan are right to tell to refuse.

Have you tried sending the letter telling them not to contact you by phone? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=26867957&postcount=15

Are they applying charges & interest to your debts still?

right if you do not want to speak to them on the phone you can send them the only contact me by letter, letter which i am sure someone will be along shorty to post the link to - Tixy has already done it :D

otherwise i believe it is against guidelines to encourage someone in financial difficulty to take out more credit to pay there credit - will go and search to see if i can find the bit i am on about (unless someone posts it whilst i am trying to find it)

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • Hi there....not sure if this will help but anyway. I am also having trouble with HSBC, ive been on a DMP with Payplan since Sept 2009, and most of my creditors have accepted the plan apart from HSBC and Northern Rock.

HSBC for around 10k credit card debt and Northern Rock is a personal loan of about 4k.....HSBC are not playing ball with me either...theyve declined Payplans offer are now trying to scare me with threatening to take me to court..Ive spoken to Payplan this morning and they say just wait as in their experience HSBC will pass it on to debt collection agency named Metropolitan and therefore will be a better chance of accepting the debt...

Northern Rock are saying theyve got no financial statement from Payplan so im still liable for paying the loan amount until such time as the plans accepted......

HSBC AND LLOYDS TSB SEEM TO BE THE MAIN ONES THAT DONT PLAY BALL ON HERE............

Hope this helps a bit ....x
  • Oh and by the way....they ring my mobile about 6 times a day but i dont answer and my house phone is now unplugged...that was the advice given to me and its worked, therefore everything has to be done by letter. I send everything recorded delivery and keep copies of everything
  • hey, thanks for replying. Yes I have sent them the letter saying not to call me and to write instead which they acknowleged but still they call. It would be good to know how they've been with other people?

    Thanks again for replying
  • Thank you for your post. I have also now unplugged my phone at home and have my mobile on silent!

HSBC are taking my Payplan payments so I'm not sure why they don't just accept! It's all very disappointing especially as I've banked with them for soooo long but it just goes to prove banks have no loyalty what so ever.
  • After a while it will stop. HSBC are accepting payments, eventually you may receive a latter from Metropolitan Collection Services who are actually HSBC in house collections at which point it will become easier. It will settle down, sooner rather than later so bear with it.

I'd advise them that if they continue to telephone when you next take a phone call from them advise that if the calls continue you will speak to the police as you believe you are being harassed and distressed by their constant calls. Log the call times and dates and if they continue then you can look at complaining about their tactics.

Halifax did this with me and when I used this they said we will delete your number and write to you in future.

    Good luck
  • If you sent the letter and they are still calling then you can report them for harassment as rustybucket has said - I think it's the OFT you report them to.
Also - they are taking the payments - I have heard on here that some companies never formally accept a DMP but continue to receive the payments. At least they are receiving the payments - some companies have been known to send them back. IF it ever went to court or anything at least you can prove that you are paying them regularly - even if they have never formally agreed to it. They don't have to stop interest and charges but most companies do eventually - if they don't after a while it may be worth writing to them and quote something to them from the literature that says 'we help our customers and work with debt charities' - most banks say something like that, that they help their customers so a strongly worded letter may help if they refuse to halt interest and charges.

  • Hi Missangel......I have made a note of your name and I will keep you informed of how i go on with Northern Rock and HSBC if thats okay and you could do the same and then we can beat these horrible sharks...and by the way ive banked with HSBC for about 15 years too so it just goes to show you....NO LOYALTY....X
  • Thanks, yes let's keep each other posted on what happens. I'm determined to stand my ground with HSBC. Fingers crossed!!! x
