Alexander Hall

Just looked at their website after seeing their name mentioned here. Are they good at sourcing sub prime mortgages?

Sub prime behaviour maybe.....ask your friends to refer you to an advisor they have used....

    The B&Q of mortgages
  • Thanks Vigilant, I don't really know anyone who has used an advisor. It's sub prime advice I need (I have another thread called Adverse Credit Mortgage which explains my situation).
Thanks again for the response though.

If you go to a large orgainsation such as B&Q for building advice it is very different from the hands on quality advice a small local builder might give.

Tis the same with mortgage. Alex Hall have a prescribed panel of lenders, will often not know anything about small private lenders or tiny Building socities and believe me they are full of salesmen that sit in morning meetings discussing how much life cover they sold yyesterday.

They also have a compliance department where common sense and good quality Human advice goes out the window, in favour of a text book / training mentaility that often does'nt address the real world needs of real people that dont easily fit into neat compliance tick boxes.
  • Alexander Hall are a well known firm and as likely to find an adverse lender as any one else however the guidance you have already been given on your main thread is just as valid.

I feel though that whoever you go to will find it difficult to place your case and being a relatively small mortgage you may find that the fees that some brokers , including Alexander Hall, may charge you will be disproportionate. I suggest that wherever you go ask for their fee information upfront. You should be given it at the very first contact you have with anyone but as we know only too well not every one strictly follows the letter of the law.
  • OK, thanks. Looks like it will be an uphill struggle, which is really frustrating given the deal on offer and the fact I can really afford it.
