CSA payments ...who gets them

My ex husband has just visited today to tell me that the CSA are taking 13 pounds a fortnight from his benefits.
My ex has never paid any child support either privately or through the CSA
I work 25 hrs and have 2 children 11 and 10.

Ok so 6.50 a week for 2 children is a joke but that aside where does this money go?
I have not recieved it, nor have I had any notification that it is even happening.
I do not get income support, the extra money I get is working and child tax credits housing benefit and a little council tax benefit.

I read somewhere that I should get the first 20 of any amount collected by the CSA so presumably I should be recieving the whole 6.50.

Its not much but its the princible, if its due to me should I be getting it?

If you are not on income support or never have been then it should be all paid to you. Unless he has another case? You need to check with the CSA to find out where it has gone.
  • Do you know how I will recieve them? should it be as a cheque?

normally paid into your bank account if you gave them the details when you first applied.

Did you apply to the CSA in the first place? or does your ex have children else where?
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.

  • 4 years ago when we first split up I had to claim income support for about 3 months until I got a job. During my claim for income support I had to sign to say that my ex was not providing for our children and that I was willing for him to be traced through the CSA . I have never heard anymore from them . I phoned them this evening to enquire about the payments being made to me and they told me that they have made a huge effort in tracing all backdated non paying parents and that they did not know how I wanted to be paid as they never had any of my details on record. I have now given them my bank details and they will forward the 26pounds a month to me as soon as they recied it from DSS. Apparently if he now gets a job they will automatically be expecting him to pay me 20% of his earnings.
    Thanks for the replies
  • Call the csa and check what method of payment they have for you - most of the money will be owing to you apart from the amount paid for the period of time you were in receipt of income support. If you have moved house in the meantime they may have been contacting you at an old address

  • Agree with teh other posters if you aren't reeiving Income support or Job seekers you will be entitled to the amount he pays. If your ex only visited today they might not of started to take the payment yet, the first payment wwould probably come out this week. I would ring teh CSA to find out for defo.

Also if any arrears that is owed will be paid to you first before, sectatary of state ie arrears built up while you were on benefits. HTHx
  • have you changed bank accounts? is it going into an old one?
