Woollen Sweaters

Good Morning

Sorry, I'm not sure if is the right place to post this, but here goes.

I'd like to get my OH a nice v-neck sweater, however I hate those ones that go out of shape when they get washed and look horrible.

Has anyone bought a really nice sweater recently and if so where from?

I'm quite wary about the cashmere ones that you get in supermarkets for instance as I don't know how they look when they're washed?

Years ago I used to have several Pringle sweaters and they always washed beautifully in the washing machine and never lost their shape, so can anyone recommend a nice woollen sweater please, perhaps at a cheaper price than a Pringle? lol

Thanks

Sal

I find M & S's men's jumpers wash well for me (well for husband, he does the washing!)

I would say M & S for wearability as well. Here are their current V neck jumpers....

Acrylic and high acrylic blends don't wash as well as superwash wool or superwash wool with a small amount of something else. So read the labels. Also most sweaters keep their shape better if laid flat on a mesh rack or towel, patted into shape and dried that way.

    M&S are good, agreed.

    Thanks Everyone

So as long as I get one with Superwash Wool/with something else, I should be ok?

  • I've never had a problem with wool, cashmere or wool and cashmere blends. I always squeeze them through in Stergene in cool water and dry them flat. They turn out as good as new and last for years. Sometimes I think the part of the problem is that some people wash them too often. If they're not worn next to the skin they really don't need to be laundered after every wear. I have no opinion about wool/acrylic or synthetic blends as I don't believe I own any

What you don't want to be doing is to buy a wool sweater that doesn't specifically say you can machine wash it because you may (not always but....) end up with a lump of felt instead. For easycare wool sjumpers that you intend to machine wash regularly it has to be superwash wool.

  • If you want warm and hardwearing then army 'wooly pullies'. Make sure they're the real wooly sort not the imitation acrylics. There's usually a choice of army green, blue or airforce grey.
