Tesco and Tesco Direct Prices

Hi all.... I went to my local Tesco store this evening to buy a cheap TV for the bedroom... I took with me a print out from the Tesco website showing the TV and also a half price TV bracket.
When I got to the store I found the TV and it was £20 more than the internet price. I obviously queried this and they said, "sorry, thats a Tesco direct price... you can order it and it will be delivered here for collection at that price but the instore price is £20 more".
Now considering they have the TV in store, would they really be sent a new one by Tesco Direct?... and surely that it is going to cost them more to do anyway. Equally I could order the item and it will be delivered free of charge, so why can't I just go in there and buy the TV at the price displayed on their own website.
I have tried to search for details of their price promise but couldn't find anything. Have they told me correctly or have I been misled for some reason?
Thanks

Just order it online and get it at the cheaper price, yes it is stupid and a waste of time, but if it saves you £20 so be it.0

It is correct - different sales channels have different prices, different overheads involved I guess. PC World, Comet etc. are the same but there you can reserve online and then go and collect your item from the stores current stock the same day and pay the online price.0

And don,t forget Quidco so you get it cheaper still.Never pay more than you have too0

i had exactly the same experience when i was buying a duvet a month ago and when i asked got the same response. Just goes to show it's always worth checking the net first - saying that shopping seems to take so much longer....0
