college and jobseekers?

Hi ive now had a re-think due to post - posted earlier.

Im going for an interview in mechanic's - part time mechanic's course (depends what available)

The course wont start until september. But as seen as i would also need a part time job. Could i seek help from the jobcentre- claim job seekers in april 18.
I know claiming jobseekers isnt the best of things i know.
I would only like to claim for a month or two. (basically to buy a push bike thats strong and good - to travel to college on and work (HOPEFULLY!). after that i wont need it! - just thinking could i claim job seekers allowance (while also getting help looking for part time work). could i claim it until i start college - i know i wont be able to claim it when i start college. but just to cover me until i start or something.or until work appears.

Thanks
Rob

Are you looking for work now? Do you have any other household income?

Someone who knows for sure will advise, but I think I am correct in thinking that you have to be actively looking for a job to get jsa.

Go to your local jobcentre and talk to someone. Better still ring them up and ask them about it, they will ask you to come in and see them.
  • Hi

Yeah you have to proove your activley searching for work.
Which i will be - part time - part time college and part time work. il be using the JCP for the part time work.
Il ask around and see what's what....

    Thanks

you can do part time courses at college and still claim jsa.
working part time can affect your benefit.
would working part time combined with the hours done at college effectively be the equivalent of fulltime hours? if so you would need to ask the jobcentre if this would affect your ability to claim. i know doing voluntary work fulltime is ok with them but the combination of a part time course and a part time job may be different. you should really just go to the jobcentre and ask about this.

You will be able to claim if you haven't got a large sum of savings and you don't work longer than 15 (or 16?) hours a week. You may also be elligible for EMA or ALG.
