  • Can't understand why this type of cosmetic surgery is offered by the NHS. Isn't the NHS stretched enough without paying for this type of procedure? After all it's not life threatening to have saggy skin, it just dosen't look nice.

I had a friend who had twins and managed to get a tuck on the nhs. Hubbie had the chop and then guess what...... few years later they went and collected his wigglies and had another one..what a waste of money....

Her tummy was not even that bad.....

    considering tummy tuck.

Told cant get on NHS here. - its a postcode lottery apparantly.

    I lost 7 1/2 stone plus had 2 large babies - one over 10lb

My muscles have parted company and I have a great upside down V from my belly button plus the general large gross apron. also above my belly buton I have a roll that hangs down which is skin.

I would very much like to have that all sorted - know it will give huge scar and be painful but that hasnt put me off.

I am currently saving hard and praying that something more important doesnt come up before I can get it done.

I think it should be available on NHS as its not purely cosmetic. In my case I get little infections in my belly button because it gets hidden in amongst it all in clothes. I hate the way it is and feel I am being punished for getting heavy in the first place.

Ive kept my weight off for 18 months now and have every intention of keeping up with it.

  • hi new to this, so be kind...

I am due to have a full tummy tuck on the NHS 2 weeks today. I have 3 children, a 7 yr old and 4 yr old twins.

Following my first, my skin returned to normal and my shape returned with exercise. Being only 5 ft 2 and carrying twins who weighed 6lb 8oz and 7lb plus placenta, it is no wonder i was stretched beyond belief. I then had a wedding dress to get into when they were 13 months old, so lost a fair amount of weight fairly quickly. Since then, i have tried in the gym, personal trainer etc to lose the extra flap i have had since their delivery.

I began to realise this was elasticity that had gone and was not going to disappear. A consultant obstetrician colleague of mine said he had heard of a twin mum getting a tummy tuck on the NHS and i should ask.

At first my GP felt i had no chance but would write for me. After the PCT saying no 3 times, a very persistent GP and a trip to see a psychiatrist (to meet the terms), they agreed to it. So following seeing my plastic surgeon at my local hospital, i go into a top London Hospital 2 weeks today for my tummy tuck on the NHS.

I dont know whether it is because the consultant surgeon is so shocked to have a NHS patient or the fact that i work for the NHS, but the fact that he has told me he will do it personally fills me with confidence. I am aware of the pain and discomfort i am going to be in, but i think as it has taken me so long to acheive this on the NHS, i have not really had chance to think about the results. :o I would love to hear from someone who has had this procedure done. And also encourage others to persist with the NHS. I appreciate, especially working for the NHS, that funds are tight, but this is definately not just a case of "just a bit of skin hanging that does not look very good" It is a whole lot more believe me. Just because you have children, does not mean you should write yourself off as a woman. :p

seems some areas will do it others wont at all.

Ive tried the GP quite a few times now and no luck.

Its not just cosmetic as such its infections, the whole thing that this does to me as a person but still cant do it which is a shame.

    I will persist.

GOod luck with yours and I hope you get the results you are after. Do you know if they are doing a traditional TT or fleur de lys??

    Hi !
After having 2 kids i am left with wrinkly ,baggy and streachmarked belly . No diets/exersice will change it :( .
The only way to get rid of the extra skin and some streatchmarks is plastic surgery (Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty).
I dont want it done abroad, want it done here in UK .
I looked at many many websites, and its very expensive (£5000-£6000).
Anyone knows where to get it done cheaper ?
When i searched the web,it says it costs in UK from £3000 , but i havent found anyone who would do it for £3000 .
    I can afford to spend £3000 on it,but not £5000-6000 .
    Thanks !

I think you should pay at all because you don't aware of abdominoplasty, if a surgeon is charging the amount so is to treat you as well. Okey!
  • I have just had a tummy tuck on the Nhs and it's the best thing that's happened to me, it's very hard going after and you can't do anything really as its painful.

If you want to apply for a tummy tuck then get a referral from your doctor to the referral centre for the plastic surgery department and see how it goes from there.

They could possibly refuse you the funding but you will need to appeal. You obviously have to state the grounds why your appealing but write the letter from the heart.

Why are you ressurecting loads of old threads on tummy tucks? Fair enough you've just had one but really no need.
  • Because its a forum and I thought there might be somebody else who might want to know some information as things do change.

thanks for your quote on tummy tucks. because of it i have renewed hope and will persist with seeing my doctor again to get things rolling on the tummy tuck situation. i didnt realise people could have tummy tucks on the nhs my doctor lead me to believe the was no chance. my stomach actually hangs down a good 10inchs below my pubic line after having 5kids including twins and a c section and losing weight it would be my dream to feel like a woman again and wear different types of clothes. do you have any more advice on how to go about it. thankyou very much and i hope your enjoying your new body x
