Bank/Provider: NORWICH UNION
Compensation:£3200
The story:
I decided to have a go at claiming for our endowment after reading all the stories on this web site. I followed the links and downloaded my letterand posted it off. A week later I recieved a questionaire to fill in which was very straight forward I also found my offer letter (which I photo copied) and the name of the person whom advised us and posted it all off. Two weeks later I had offer of redress for £3200. Big Thanks to Martins web site for all the help. If I can do it anyone can. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeee :j

Compensation: £14000....yay!!!!!
Thank you SO much for your advice. I was coming up to the deadline for complaining, and would never have bothered without your easy links and printable letter of complaint.
I really didn't hold out much hope, especially as I took the policy out so long ago that I had forgotten some of the exact amounts involved.
But after a few calls, and a few weeks, I today got a letter from my endowment firm offering me a really fantastic compensation package, with two options to choose from. One let me keep the policy in force with a lower compensation, and the other option allows me to repay the mortgage with a tidy sum of money left over.
What can I say, except "Thank you".
I am forever grateful to your site, and to my friend who sent me your link.:T0 -
Hi To all
I would just like to thank this site for the advice on missold endowments,
i took out 2 endowments with the Pru in the early 1990's and remember distinctly being told that they would both pay off the mortgage and still leave a little bonus, I had a shock when i received the letters from the pru telling me that both policies would not meet there respective targets.
Taking advice from this website and acticting on it i have received a good compensation package for my complaints to the pru.
The forms were very straight forward to complete and the result, one happy chappie.
Once again i thank you!!!

Bank/Provider: Cheletenham and Gloucester
Compensation:£2050
Having read your article, I just visited the 'Which' website, downloaded the template letter and sent it off.
They responded by return and sent a form for me to complete. I sent this back straight away, and they sent their offer of £2050 within 4 weeks. That's less than 6 weeks all together. And all for a £30,000, 20 year mortgage endowment.
Thanks for your nagging, Martin - I would not have done it without you.0 -

Provider: United Dominion/Royal Sun Alliance 25 year policy for £13K
Amount Offered: £168!
I just want to warn people that if they make a claim via the FSCA they will get a very different response than if they were able to go straight to their provider.
The agent who sold us our endownment in 1989 had gone out of business. I tried Royal Sun Alliance but they did not want to know. It has taken 9 months to get a response from the FSCA after numerous phone calls, letters, application to land registry for information etc. etc. They say that they are only bound to offer the difference between a repayment mortgage taken out at the same time. The fact that if I had taken out a repayment mortgage 17 years ago I would have been in a better position and that I am going to be at least £4K under on the most favourable projection does not seem to appear in their calculations. I got a very sympathetic young man on the phone agreeing with me but saying there was nothing he could do as this was the way the industry worked out their figures! My only route now seems to be to to pay a financial adviser to check the figures - will probably cost £168!!!!!

Brittania Building Society
sold in 1993 / 25yrs for £40,000 mortgage
Used the 'Which' forms - very easy to use - fill in your details and a letter of complaint is automatically prepared & you print and send off!
Very detailed forms from Brittania - painful but necessary-luckily still had all information of the mortgage advice/offer from the building society.
A few weeks later an offer of approx £12.000 including money paid in & compensation!
Well worth the effort!0 -
Bank - Friends Provident
Compensation - Full refund with interest of all payments made (approx 11yrs) approx £25K
Story - Both my then boyfirend (now husband) and I wanted to start a savings plan towards buying a house. Was advised to take an endowment out as it was 'guaranteed' to pay off mortgage, may give a little extra with growth, would also reduce term of mortgage when eventually taken out.
When first 'red' letter appeared warning of shortfall in projected values, we sent of for and filled in the appropriate miselling forms.
Claim was rejected, we appealed and that was also rejected - end of story or so we thought...
Out of blue a year later we were contacted by a review panel and asked again to fill in the mammoth form which bizzarrely asked for details of our current financial circumstances (much improved over time) - blow me down we were victorious (without predjudice obviously..) Got both policy contributions back to approx tune of £25k between us.
Keep plugging away if you know you are right and they are in the wrong0 -
THe Halifax have just independently reviewed my Endowment mis-selling complaint from two years ago relating to policy sold to me in 1988 by the LPBS and found in my favour after rejecting the complaint 18 months ago. I am awaiting the settlement outcome but is there a reason for these reviews the Financial Companies are making of their closed files.0
