    Thanks dunstonh and turbobob.Very helpful
  • I think I'm going to take the plunge - I have 2 endowment policies, neither are attached to mortgages anymore, the first is with Standard Life and was taken out in 1992 and the other was a top up taken out in 1994 with General Accident (now Norwich Union). I know that I still have time to complain about the Norwich Union one as I had a letter a couple of weeks ago about it, but I don't know if I'm too late with the Standard Life one, can anyone tell me how I find out.

    Thanks

    BB

  • We too took out an Endowment to go with our mortgage in 1992 with Legal and General, Be very carefull how you deal with this company, I put a complaint in to them on 2nd February and was told I would recieve a letter in approx 10 days, Last week I contacted them again to find out where my letter was and any information on my complaint and was told that no complaint had been logged. I was advised to make a complaint by and IFA as our endowment had a £14k shortfall. I am due to contact them again on Wednesday as this will be another 10 days.
I probably should have done it in writing myself, but my mortgage company has also contacted them in writing and they say no record.
I will send a letter recorded delivery (or whatever the one you have to sign for is) on Wednesday if I still dont get any joy.

I always send anything like that and letters to the Ombudsman recorded delivery - it is expensive but not as expensive as their little games can be. I hope they manage to get the next one! Without proof of postage there is nothing you can do to show that a letter has been sent and for some people that could result in their claim being timed out.

    Good luck with your claim.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all on this site and especially Martin. I have just received a cheque for £2300 in redress of my endowment policy. You really wouldn't believe how much this money will help us, thank you. :j  :j :money:

:j Received a cheque for £13,684.81 at the weekend - started the complaint procedure about 2 yrs ago and they threw it back at us
and said 'NO'! They wrote out of the blue just before christmas and said they were reviewing the case - and lo and behold we were lucky!!!!

Our shortfall was £24000 on a £57000 endowment!!!

    Well done lucyspoon.
Am I right in assuming that the final payout included the surrendered endowment value as well?
If only I knew then what I know now :)

I am assuming that you didn't go to the Ombudsman on this either lucyspoon - you have indeed been lucky not to have had to go that route if this is so.
